Skydweller +1. Beautiful timepiece with a complicated movement. Was then hit out of the ball park with the SS model released 2017.

It is a beautiful watch for sure. But it’s only been hard to get these last 3-4 years of this Rolex high demand, before that it was readily available and not very popular. I bought it at a discount in 2015 and sold it a year later for a BLNR. Still love the green dial but my vote easily goes to the BLRO.

It changed the game. It made fools out of many in the community who could never imagine Rolex cannibalising a precious metal reference to make the exact design in ss. The day this watch was announced, there was a shock wave in the community.
Nobody really expected it, white gold BLRO owners were shocked, five digit Pepsi owners were even surprised and my foot was definitely in my mouth as I openly admitted I was wrong about Rolex ever releasing it. Since its arrival, I no longer for certainty know what Rolex will and will not do. The SD43 then confirmed this. Rolex can be unpredictable and still surprise us, and in a good way!

The annual calendar complication introduced in the SkyD.

This watch is perhaps the ultimate Rolex full with its historical DNA executed in a contemporary way. From a mile away recognisable as a Rolex;

> Fluted and functioning bezel
> Cyclops
> Oyster bracelet
> GMT function
> Simplified and durable new technology with the Saros system
> Bling factor

and to top it off with an always winding crown up aligned mechanism.

Rolex really showed what they are capable of and it's the most revolutionary watch from the last decade and the decade before

Rolex watch of the decade?!

To me value retention or price on second market are irrelevant as is availability in this case as it’s driven by demand.

Engineering? Then it has to be DSSD!

Also for all the same reasons you mentioned, DSSD and then Sky-Dweller. Those are both newly engineered watches that kept Rolex relevant.

well, can it be anything else than the Submariner Date 116610? Released in 2010 and has been a pilar in the line-up.

Unsure about the recent models whether they are truly desirable from a collectors perspective or if its just the hype.

Definitely made an impact this decade. That Blue dial started a while watch craze, something the 5711 couldn’t do and it’s an amazing dial in its own right. Now even Panerai has blue dials and gradient dials are now all over the place, from Panerai to Blancpain but none could ever do it better the D-Blue imo.

Seems easy enough to make a water proof watch but the Deepsea is a marvel and it’s function is incredible. A 5mm thick domed crystal, a multi-piece caseback in titanium that flexes under pressure and the deeper it goes the more water tight it gets as the case compresses and flexes. The tech is pretty sick.
The SkyDweller really brings one thing to the table and it’s the ring command system, other that it’s a pretty standard calendar watch.
I like the SkyDweller but I’m sort of lost on the need for the month over the day. I’ve never needed to know the month.

Despite no longer owning one as I prefer the 116519, the watch of the decade must surely be the 116500. People may well prefer other watches (I.e. the 116519) but in terms of market impact, no watch has caused anything near as much noise as the 500.

For me it’s the DSSD D-Blue introduced in August 2014. A masterpiece of engineering as seen with the original DSSD with a new mesmerising gradient dial unlike anything Rolex has done before. The watch stands alone as far as Rolex sport models.
Runner up is the BLRO on Jubilee.

You are correct sir. And to add, the DSSD trekked to the deepest part of the ocean. Other than going to space, being able to serve in this function makes other watches seem “pedestrian”. Reminds me of when the great explorers to Everest wore Rolex Explorer watches about 50 years ago. DSSD D-Blue is the ultimate tool watch of the decade and probably will be for the 2020’s as well. Rolex built something special that will remain lasting for decades to come.

The D-Blue for me. Completely unique, technically a marvel. Love SkyD and Daytona but the DSSD is just so unusual in terms of it being a tribute watch and the only gradient dial in the line up.

BLNR for me, despite me having owned most other models over the years.
I had BLNR on oyster for 5 years then “upgraded” to the BLNR on jubilee (batgirl).

I love the ceramic gmt and the blue and black just work amazingly well in my opinion. Jubilee bracelet and new movement just add the cherry on the top for me

This is probably my favorite Rolex. It’s remarkable is so may ways. Unfortunately I can’t pull it off and neither can anyone else that’s not 6’2”+ and has a 7.5“+ wrist. It just looks like a Batman weapon on most wrists.

Rolex of the decade?
Daytona
Pepsi
Skydweller

D500 as it was so hotly anticipated and the actuality delivered, and honourable mention to the SkyD for its innovations.

I would have to say it has to be one of the new ceramic Daytonas probably the white St St version as No. 1. The WG Ceramic Daytona on the Oysterflex strap runs a close second.

I think in terms of importance to the brand and impact on the market, the 116500 is clearly the most important watch of the decade.

My favorite? The 116519LN

Leaving out personal favorites or hard to obtain pieces I'd say the James Cameron Deep Sea Dweller.
