As discussed on the forums recently, the Swiss only dial can be a) original 1999-2000 issues, usually A- or U-series. Or b) a service dial. I've always had a thing about the Swiss only dial, but no one else notices it unless a photo is posted. And I've yet to figure out how to do that here.

Not sure that the 3186 is worth the extra grand or so difference being asked.

Nice catch! I just scored an F-series (no holes case) black Explorer II, in transit. Have had a few Rolexes but never an Explorer. Looking forward to it!

As someone who handled both movements 3185, 3186 and proudly own 3186, I would go for engraved rehaut with 3186. I personally don’t like the red hand wiggling on 3185 when moving the mercedez hour hand. It feels cheap. Also, 3186 crown rotation can give you more hour rotation (from memory 3185 can shift 4-5 hours? Whereas 3186 will get you at least 7-8 hours per 1 full crown rotation). But at the end of the day, you are buying a discontinued, one of a kind Rolex so either won’t hurt. Also, I wanted to buy the ‘newest’ stock of the discontinued watch i.e 2008-2010 serials (M,V,Z and random). Good luck hunting, and one last thing… find a full set one too!

The wiggle of the 3185 is almost a feature as it makes it easier to authenticate the movement without having to open the case back.

Agreed. Not sure how that works... the two cannot coexist... unless?

What's a service dial? Is it a replacement dial? If so, what does it look like? (swiss only? swiss made? or T<25?)

Cheers,

I don't personally like Renault. I'm more like an Opel-type of guy. So I would choose the first one.

Okay, serious. Go with the 3185 movement. 3186 is nice but there are quite a lot reported problems with that.

Cheers,
That is correct. Service/replacement dial which is a ‘Swiss’ only dial.

Service dials can be distinguished if the "Swiss" is not bound by the left and right second indicies. See the photos on the bottom of this thread:
