Buy the watch you want, don't get sucked into buying what your AD tells you to buy.

If you had bought a watch you didn't want from a dealer in the hope of obtaining something you did want at an undetermined future date, you would have screwed yourself.

That is so unfair! I‘ve been on the waiting list at my AD for about 2 months just to get the Milgauss and your AD offers it to you without even asking for it

To be fair, I’m waiting to get the blue-z model. Maybe your AD is offering you the black dial Milgauss?

I was enquiring about my first purchase (124060) with an AD recently. They were really helpful and chatty at first, explaining they are an in-demand piece and there'd be a bit of a wait. They then asked if I'd be interested in a YM instead. I politely declined, then instantly the AD changed their tune and stated there was a 5+ year wait on the model I wanted, so wouldn't even place me on their waiting list!!

I can live with my decision as I'm not prepared or in a position to play those games. Having said that, I also clearly ruined any chance I had with that particular AD of getting the model I wanted. I guess at least they were up front so there was no uncertainty.

Buy what you want and wear what you have is what I typically do. But most of my purchases come from the Grey Market for Rolex so I am not held to the AD games. I would have gone in and had a face to face conversation with the SA and and ask how the watch purchase would impact my wait. Depending on what she said and how much I liked the watches in person I might have picked one up if I liked it. I think you are in for a long wait.

No. I think she was being nice. It’s might be a long wait for what you want regardless of if you bought a Milgauss or AK or not. She may know this and be trying to keep you happy.

You made the right call on two accounts. One its stupid to buy what you don't want/don't like, not exactly chump change for those watches. Second I doubt the purchase of either of those two watches moves you up the list, especially for the white Daytona!

1- i agree, you did the right thing, wait and get the watch you really want, no point in wasting money

2- BUT, the air King might of been worth it if it bumped you up the list, im only saying that as i never liked it but the more I saw it I liked it. Put my name down for one and even a year after purchase I still love it and enjoy seeing it on my wrist

Any relationship in which I need to hurt myself isn't a relationship I want. On the other hand I don't see that kind of push from either ADs with which I have relationships.

Get the Air King its the most affordable SS. If that gets you a Daytona i don't see how that could hurt you. You can always sell the AK at what you paid for anyway.

Another note, you’re likely the 17th person she called. The other 16 didn’t fall for it either.

You are not the cash cow the AD is looking for.
The UBER desirable watches you long for are being sold by AD elsewhere....they will sure skip your phone number next time IMHO.

I remember my AD reaching out on a YM blue dial available but I politely declined as I am waiting for GMT LN. A few months later, I got the GMT from the same AD. So you made the right decision by holding out.

What do YOU think are your chances really to get them?

ADs have a lot of VIP clients who have spent $$$$$ of money and will be first in line to get BLNR and Daytona. If you’re one of these people then passing on AK and Milgauss didn’t hurt you chances. If you have negligible history then whoever did buy them just got moved up ahead of you.

I also think ADs look down poorly at people who are on multiple lists and they’re only the hot models. And it’s like a Sub, GMT, and Daytona ...AD will ask “what does this guy really want?”

My guess is that with this single purchase, you aren’t likely to get any of the 3 you want anytime soon and by buying one of the watches she’s offered you, you’ll be a bit closer, but not that close. Hope I’m wrong, but that’s how I see it.

Personally I wouldn’t buy them if I didn’t want them.

I think what is hurting you most is the fact that you are on multiple “lists” for multiple hot watches. Without any other purchase history no doubt they look at this and question your intentions.
