It's cool how they sing like musical chimes at different times during the minute. I've got another watch that has a slower beat ETA 2846 and it makes the same sounds. The only difference is the rhythmic ticking is slightly slower.

i fell asleep wearing my sub one night.....its quiet and dark of course...i raised my arm and somehow the sub was by my ear and i woke to hearing the second hand moving..it was so soothing...the titititititititi sound...totally amazed me....

so try doing it late during the night when all is quiet and you will hear it....

during the night it sits across the room in a flat cushion box..you can see it glow all night long...makes me smile too....

I was concerned that the OQ was going to sound like a 90's Swatch, but was assured by my friends here that it didn't. Since purchasing one I am pleasantly surprised by the noise it makes. To my ears it sounds more like the slow seconds 'tick tock' of a mechanical clock, than the manic 'ting ting ting' of others in my collection. I do have to hold it close to my ear now that advacing years and slight tinnitus have muted my hearing somewhat.

Your ears are correct. The Oyster Quartz uses a Swiss lever escapement like the mechanicals, just one beat per minute instead of eight. This is unique for quartz movements and makes them all the more special, IMO.

I have a couple of mid-sixties Bulova 214 Accutrons (an Astronaut and a Spaceview) that use a tuning fork time base. If I wear the watches while sleeping, the inner springs in my mattress often resonate at the tuning fork frequency and the loud hum wakes me up.

Can't hear any of my watches.... Wished I could. Hearing aids with major hearing loss. Sucks. But, ever tried to video your second hand in slow motion. Count the beats? That's pretty cool as well.

Yes, that is really cool. Also, setting your exposure time for exactly 1 second and taking a picture of the dial is fun. You can literally see and count 8 seconds hands in the photo from the oscillating.

You mean per second, not minute, right? And the quartz watch ticks once a second as the seconds hand's supposed to move once a second. Can't see much magic in this.

Op here, I'm a musician. I can hear at least 4 different notes in SD throughout a minute. The movement goes from low to high to very high. Super interesting that each of my watches sound so different.

Yes, you're correct, once per second.

Standard quartz movements don't use Swiss lever escapements like the OysterQuartz. This prevents the typical backlash of the seconds hand where it wobbles. It's also regulated for temperature, jeweled, and all metal gearing and construction.

What magic is there to see in Rolex if a $500 mechanical also beats at 28,800 bhp? Just because the seconds hand moves the same doesn't mean they are constructed that way. There's a large difference in construction and performance between standard and HAQ (high accuracy quartz).
