Found myself in a very similar situation and sold my 114270 yesterday. No regret, I love the new one!

1. I hear ya. For years, part of me regretted picking the 16570 instead of the 114270 back in '09 for my first Rolex. Always loved its simplicity.

2. All of that is irrelevant with the arrival of the 124270, which in my mind is the best Explorer ever made (no disrespect to the amazing vintage ones out there, though).

Congratulations on the lucky pickup! I’m still waiting for mine. Question for the OP: you said that you expressed interest back when the watch came out; did you follow up at all in the months in between, or was that initial expression of interest all it took?

I'm not the OP, but I recently bought the new Explorer from an AD.
I had originally expressed an interest in the 39mm. When the changes were announced, I contacted them and said that I would still like the chance to buy the 36mm. I didn't contact them again and I received a call a few weeks ago.

Yeah same as said above. I only made the initial request back in April and honestly I let myself forget about it because I knew it’d be awhile. At the time she acknowledged my request and that was that.

Got it, thanks! I’ll stand pat and wait it out and practice my ability to exercise patience.

Second, this statement from the AD seems odd. All we ever hear is they have no idea what is coming in future shipments for allocated pieces. To call out a specific month, a year in advance, when you'd potentially have another opportunity seems like a random WAG, or, hints to them having some greater insight than they let on.

Regardless, congrats!
When I picked up my 36mm Explorer, I was told roughly the same thing. If I passed, they wouldn't get another one for over a year.

I prefer the Listerine lume over the Scope lume.

Congrats. Just landed my 124270 as well. It’s such a great timepiece.

Looks just about perfect on your wrist. Good choice.
The differences are subtle between the two, but definitely noticeable once you become familiar. I find the new release better in every way.
