You’re not mad at all. The Explorer II is one of the best watches ever made….full stop.

It’s a beauty reference but I prefer the ghost hands on the previous generation.

Have to say, I have always admired the EXPII but thought 42mm was too big. Additionally thought I would always want a polar if I pulled the trigger, however having just bought a 226570 black dial as an impulse buy, when comparing it to a GMT and Sub, I do agree with lots of the comments above especially on the comfort, legibility and versatility points.

Really like the under the radar aspect and endorse the underrated, undervalued comments. I've been really taken by it and love the subtle upgrades on the 50th anniversary piece introduced last year. More comfortable on my wrist despite having the same link configuration as my other Oyster pieces, maybe the lug to lug measurements just suit my wrist better, but this watch has been a great surprise after owning many different Rolex models over the years.

Another point is regarding the colour of the dial, the polar gets all the hype. I'm not saying its not a great choice, but have to say as the black was the only one available to me at that point, I'm really pleased with it. The gloss effect, closer to the 1971 original and contrast with the orange hand make me think it was the better choice. Amazing how the hype can warp opinion especially when people don't get to see the models too often simply on display and try them on.

Anyway great thread, keep wearing the Exp II, when you know, you know....
