Very easy choice - AP.

AP all day every day. I was never an AP fan until I had one in hand and it seriously blew me away too. I love the Daytona but The ROC is more comparable to a PM Daytona.

Rolex Panda vs AP 38mm Panda?

If both are at MSRP, I’d choose the Daytona. Like others have said, these watches are not in the same league in terms of finish. But for 13K you have a Daytona, an amazing watch with incredible aesthetics and quality at that price point. The AP costs 2x the Daytona, and for the price, I would want a Royal Oak with an in-house movement and an exposed case back. That said, the 38MM AP Chrono is fantastic - but given the choice of one or the other at MSRP, I’m going Rolex Daytona.

I don't know. Doesn't the Daytona dial look like a panda face? I've never cared for the design of this iteration of Daytona - face is too cluttered and busy for me, but I do like the AP.

AP - just so I can tick a ‘holy trinity’ off the list.

Rolex Panda vs AP 38mm Panda?

I have heard from a couple watchmakers that you have to be way more careful wearing an AP because the movement is much more fragile compared to Rolex. But you’re right, they sure are pretty in person!

Anyways to the topic, I can't really consider the AP a Panda w/ those blue sub dials..

Must just be the angle of the pic

I mean, realistically, and this is from someone who's owned both AP Chronos and 116500LN in white dial... The AP is a better watch. Now, the Daytona is more comfortable to wear, but it depends on your wrist size for sure. But to me, the AP is another level of a watch, no matter if the Daytona is new and it's worth 50k, that's just because of people wanting it as a status symbol and/or for asset allocation.

Not sure I’ve seen a panda with black halos around it’s face…..but I quit my panda breeding program years ago…….

AP and Rolex are not in the same category, full stop. My contribution to this discussion is that I declined a Daytona from my AD (not a flipper), but purchased the Panda AP chrono. It is my favorite chrono, by far, and is currently also my favorite watch.

Both are great watches but the Daytona for me just because I am more familiar with the brand and wear.

I own both the current SS Daytonas, black and white, but I would go with AP in this case.

If I had a Daytona, the AP is an easy choice. What a piece! I am curious what it is like to get one at AD level

Since the original question was looks alone I’d definitely go with the AP. I love the way that light reflects off of the angles of the case and bracelet. I also think that the texture of the dial really makes it pop.

not a lover of AP's, awkward and so on. panda for me, albeit too small but aesthetically a better looking watch IMO.

I'm sorry but not even a comparison for me - the Daytona here is leaps and bounds more beautiful... Not a fan of that particular reference.

I think the time on the watch is 11.50pm. You can see the bottom of the next date beginning to come down.

Assuming you would entertain 41mm, I think the new ROC trumps.

Rolex Panda vs AP 38mm Panda?

Both are gorgeous! I actually launched a similar thread right before I got my Daytona, and in the end I really do prefer the Daytona. Not just for the looks but also for the durability.

My biggest regret is not buying the AP at list and flipping it for a A few nice watches

Of course AP but, it's not really a comparison considering the AP costs $50k more than a Daytona?

Dollar wise it's a bigger difference than the price between a Speedmaster and a Daytona

Absolutely. Although I think the 38mm is still closed case back?

At which point, assuming both retail and never selling, I’d actually daily the Daytona. But the open display back at 41mm puts me in the AP camp.

But who am I kidding, both is the right answer!
