I wish Rolex would make multiple sizes on most of their sports lineup, but for some reason it's just not something they like to do very often.

A 42mm Daytona would be amazing (as an example)

In this regard, there was no point in making a specific one for women. My wife and I used to dive a LOT. I cannot imagine her wearing a lady specific diving watch with a small dial. Frankly, a larger dial than a sub would even be better. The best diving watch (not Rolex) have huge dials.

Totally agree; the watch was created as a tool watch and has become a fashion watch. Rolex has chosen to maintain the tool watch image for the watch. I agree with the assessment that the YM is as close as it get for the ladies in the Rolex catalog.

Because when they were designed originally, form followed function. Getting a smaller watch that could go that deep, have a dive bezel, and remain legible probably wasn’t possible. So it was a 40mm watch. Just like the men’s DJ/DD were traditionally 36mm: that’s what it took to accomplish the desired goals. Seems lost on many today, who primarily see watch sizes as fashion statements.
