DD40 availability

I currently have a RG DD40 olive and it’s my only watch w/o lume. When I wear it, I have absolutely no desire that it have lume. The dial and indices make it special. I’m actually waiting on a platinum myself with the ice blue romans. Looking forward to having a platinum with a fluted bezel.
I am also waiting on an ice blue platinum DD40 - I have been waiting since they came out a year ago. Have others had luck getting one from their AD? If you got one, are you as happy with it in the metal?

I’d prefer that the DD didn’t have lume but I prefer the sticks over the Roman’s so it is what it is if you’re looking at a DD40.

I wouldn’t not buy one because it had lume though…

Lume is overrated. Wouldn't want it in a DD.

No Thankyou … I had one before with champagne sticks it was really out of place. This was my most recent purchase I love it.

Have had both in the DD40. For me, the deconstructed romans seem more special than the stick. Lume wasn’t really part of the decision making.

DD40 ice blue with lume sticks!

I just noticed on the Rolex site that the DD40 ice blue can now be had with lume sticks. Last year, this dial version didn't seem to be there. So is this a new dial Rolex quietly introduced? I had once thought I prefered lume for readibility at night, but I now think the Romans look better. The fluted bezel seems to be reflected in the Romans, whereas the sticks (as well as the diamond sticks) look "wimpy" and unbalanced with the rest of the watch (particularly the bold fluting.) But, if my heart is set on a lumed ice blue I now have the option! Should I??

Until this post, it never occurred to me that other DD models don't have lume. I just got the model I liked most, which happened to have lume but that didn't matter to me either way at the time. To my pleasant surprise, after getting it I really started noticing and liking the lume. Not only is it practical, but it makes the watch more casual, fun, and less formal, which are all pluses.

Personally, I prefer no lume, but I’d agree with what seems to be the majority opinion here - I.e., lume shouldn’t be the deciding factor in choosing your dial. Get the one which makes you happiest!

No issues with no having lume on mine.
I like it just like it is, if Im worried about seeing the time in the dark Ill wear my Omega X-33 LOL
I have nothing against lume on a DD, just the dials I like most don't have lume.

Why are the hands different on this Day Date?

I also love the platinum with the green, as well as my favorite the ice blue. But - the hands on your watch are *flat bars*, whereas on the Rolex site the hands of all the dial variations are"V" shaped.

Is yours an earlier vtiation, or does Rolex not always produce what is on their website?

Has anyone else gotten this variation in the hands: flat bars, not "fluted" V shaped?

I’m reasonably sure they’re not flat, and it’s just a photo effect makes the center ridge vanish.

Here, e.g., I think this partial reflection on the hour hand is being cut off by the center ridge.

Same. It’s just so useful. When I wake up in the middle of the night I don’t want to be blinded by my phone just so I can check the time.

I was Lucky to get one from AD, i order it when they release it last year, waited 13 months on it. The watch is awsome, Its Very heavy. The bezel is a perfect match to the dial with roman numerals. Platinum is so clean and shiny. I first ordered it with baguette dial and than i regret and went for the romans. You have something to look forward to when you get it.

Bzzz, wrong!!! FWIW, there must be 50 photos of this watch on the forum. You chose not to do any further research and jump to a conclusion.

I love Platinum and I love WG more because of the type of mistake rash neophytes make. Here's a photo taken using a handy magnifier, buddy. Now I've got to reset the time on my watch.

Good eye, you can also see the center ridge on the minute hand if you look closely in the original photo. Nothe that the original photo makes some of the Romans appear flat as well.

My personal preference for lume has nothing to do with legibility or being able to tell time in the dark. Practicality aside, having lumed indices make the watch less formal and more casual. Plus I love the playful and sporty-look lumed hands and hour markers give to a Day-Date when worn as a daily compared to the more dressier roman/diamond dial options.

With that said, I'm also a big fan of the deconstructed Romans on the DD40, but on DD36, full Romans can feel a bit cluttered and I think baton indices visually opens up the smaller 36mm dial space.

Nowadays, I'm all for less being more and prefer to remain demure and stealthy.

Beautiful!

I prefer dials with lune over the ones without, but there are a few awesome dials which lack lume but are worth having on the DD lineup!

I agree that a less ostentatious and stealthy display is desireable. That is why I like platinum and avoid diamonds. I like your watch a lot and think the sticks go well with the old smooth bezel. But they look insufficient to my eye on the fluted bezel. For the fluted, I prefer the Romans over the sticks. Although I really do like the convenience of legibility in the dark. Hence my dilemma!

Yes I do think that sticks go well on the older 6-digit smooth bezel PT DD36.
Rolex discontinued the lumed indices on their entire DD36 catalogue so the only options available now for the signature platinum ice blue dial is either with roman or baguette diamond indices.

Fluted PT DD40 you are looking to get wears very differently to the flat PT DD36. I think ice blue deconstructed roman looks great for it.
