Agree that the air/land/sea thing is over playe'd and makes little sense. When I fly myself, for example, a chrono may come in handy but I don't need a GMT.

More generally, all I really need is 3 watches - a sports watch, a dress watch, and a beater for when the going gets rough. This is where I have happily been at for some time.

If I was diving I might add a diver as recommended above but I am not. My sports watch is good for 120m which is plenty for swimming, snorkeling, and boating/sailing.

SeaQ or fifty fathoms. It’s not as popular, it seems, but I also like the FF Bathyscape as well. SeaQ definitely choice #1.

Because you're going with icons for your air, land, and sea trio, I would opt for a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. If budget is an issue, the Breitling SuperOcean Heritage II would round out that trio nicely too.

Another vote for the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. Just picked one up and it's my daily watch. Can be had used for far less than a used Submariner. It's iconic, tough, has excellent finishing and is true high horology. If you'd like to spend less, you can cover the Sea aspect very well with a Tudor Pelagos.
