In the real world of Yacht racing IMHO not a lot of use,far too complicated for proper regatta use.Fine for posing on your Yacht if you have one. great movement horology speaking technology wise, a first with a programmable mechanical memory. But in reality not much use in the world of hectic regatta yacht racing, but OK to time your breakfast eggs, and posing in the club house after race.

How many people actually have seen someone wearing a Yatchmaster II? I would love to see how it looks on someone in person to really determine if I like it or not.

You'll generally see a lot of hand-held, easy to use digital chronographs with a count down function, usuakky on a piece of velcro near the helm. Also the larger Timex Ironman watches are useful.

Analog yacht-timers almost always look like they were made by Tommy Hilfiger in the 1990's.

Any sort of gold Rolex is good for posing in the club.

I always found this watch a bit over the top from pictures but having seen the first one in person today on a well dressed guy sporting it very well I can honestly say it is a stunning watch. I should stress I really did not like much in pictures but for me it could now even be competition for the YG daytona now...

Very nice..

I think the only thing that I hate about that watch is that with all the colors, it is impossible to wear that and have it go unnoticed. With every other watch, even a solid gold daytona, its possible someone will overlook it. With the gold, flash, and colors, you might as well be wearing a Jacob and Co.

This is what makes the YMII differ from the Sub, GMT and Daytona I think. The special functions of those watches (the Sub etc.) are quite useful, and they can be used in everday life even if you don't belong to the category they were intended for (diver, navigator, racing driver..). The regatta chronograph is not useful in the same way (well, as some have pointed out, you can use it for timing when cooking but you can use practically any watch for that) and hence the YMII will probably never have the same general appeal. And because of that I'm not sure it will ever become a classic. Mayble collectible, but perhaps not in the same way as the Newman Daytona for instance, because that watch does have a general appeal. And now I'm referring to the functions only, not the appearance.

Agreed.

If I had that much money there would be one or more watches that I would buy first.

Image 'borrowed' from another thread elsewhere on the site...

I didn't care for the YM II at first, but it is growing on me... at the very least I can see the appeal.

That countdown timer - does it just countdown from ten minutes or can you set it for 4:43 if need be?

Looks much better in white gold but still can't understand what Rolex were thinking when they launched this! It could have been such a great watch but they made a complete hash of it!

I think this will have a short production run but could be worth a lot in future because of this (not that it's cheap now though!).

Personally, I really like the watch!!! Does that mean, I would ever buy it? Probably not, not unless I have bought all my other grail watches, including WG Daytona, TT GMTIIC, Deepsea........the list goes on! LOL

YM II designed by an American designer for the US market, if 2 of my local AD's are to be believed. Truly hideous piece, worse than the Leopard Daytona and is the epitome of bad taste, IMHO.

But, I'm tired of sitting on the fence.....

prefer the WG version though...
money aside, it all boils down to your preference! if you really want one, no shame in getting what you want!

A little off topic, but the YM *ONE* has my tick of approval.

I especially like it because you can buy it as a matching pair - one for yourself and one for the missus.

I remember holding on at an AD. It was very heavy and very bulky. I know a lot of people think its ugly but I found it very appealing. If you get one it would be interesting to hear a review.
