Unfortunately we have to be vigilant today no matter what part of the world we travel. sorry about the robbery and most important you both were not harmed. I hope you find a little solace sooner than later .

Terrible experience OP, it could have been worse.

It’s only getting worse unfortunately.

Rolex Stolen from wrist in Barcelona

Register it on thewatchregister.com

I also suggest you start a thread with the serial number and “stolen” on the title.

I’m really sorry these low life people got away with your watch

Barcelona is not Lisbon and Lisbon is not Barcelona. Bad luck happens anywhere anyway.

Hopefully this helps someone make the decision not to wear a Rolex in a tourist area. These guys were pros and worked together. I still can’t believe how quickly it happened.

Portugal is safe. Been all through Portugal, Madeira, Azores wearing a Rolex.

Same goes for trains to and from Naples and Rome.

No one cares about your watch in Portugal.

Agree - so much depends on where you are even in relatively safe areas.

Lisbon has a general crime rate which is half that of Barcelona.

Sorry to hear OP. I heard all the stories about Barca, went there last week but seemed relatively safe but just goes to show you have to be weary when travelling anywhere these days.

Lots of professional thieves in Europe. This had to be expected. They see money on someone easily accessible so they take it. Sorry for your lost

Sorry to hear, OP. A very sad state of affairs indeed. I hope you recover soon from this nasty experience.

People, Barcelona is notorious for watch thefts. Wear a cheap watch there, same goes with Paris, London, Rome, Brussels, NYC and other big cities with a relatively high crime index. This information is public, do your homework before travelling.

Ask yourself: is the pleasure of wearing a nice piece on the wrist in such places worth the risk of being mugged?

The point is any large city is a magnet for crime. Rome is notorious for pickpockets. Madeira and the Azores is nothing like a large capital city such as Lisbon. My family live there and have told me pickpocketing is very common on the metro in Lisbon. Your opinion is not helpful for anyone!

Sorry to hear, OP. I hope you are made whole somehow. I also hope this doesn't discourage you to travel in the future.

A cautionary tale to all here.

That´s nasty, but at least you weren´hurt, that´s the most important thing. Unfortunately, putting up resistance to a street thug and punching him can result in you maybe getting shot or stabbed...it´s happened often enough in London, for example. But I know I´d certainly feel a terrible rage if some punk tried this with me, and would probably lose it and lash out too! But it´s not a good idea, imo, if you think about it...

Also Geneva is attracting teams of pickpocketer from French cities and Italy.

So be careful cause they do not work alone and they can get violent if you resist.

Always wear long sleeves. Avoid bling or a watch looking like a RM. Do not get drunk. Being with your wife or kid is not a shield. If you are not in your prime, be extra precautious.

Pickpocketers do not care using violence if the person is old or a women... on the contrary. And falling during a violent attack when you are old has not the same consequences, hasn't it?

(That video is in Geneva)
