Update: I brought the watch to my ad who has a watchmaker in house and they service watches there. They let me look at the watch under a microscope and told me there was no scratch which there isn’t.
You can’t see anything unless the light hits it at a very certain angle.

I said that it is more a defect in the dial where the sunburst effect is more prominent in that exact area.

They said that this is normal as it isn’t a scratch and not something that would be covered. I guess I will just live with it or go to another AD.

One way of looking at this QC defect / issue, is that make it more unique and special. Maybe just leave it as is, than risk it coming back from RSC with more issues.

I'd go to another AD if it's convenient for you, or contact Rolex directly.

I think I will email rolex with really good pics… last thing I want to do is send the watch to Rsc, wait a month and have them tell me oh we don’t cover that.

Yeah, the AD was wrong in calling it normal. At best it's an undesirable anomaly.

The wrist shot looks all good and if you can only see it in certain conditions I’d let it go.
I have two sunburst dials and there are minor irregularities on both of them if you scrutinize through a loupe.
They are just not so good in making dials and can learn a thing or two from Seiko.

If you want to get it solved there is no other option than go to a RSC. An email will do you no good since this will have to be assessed by a watchmaker before they give you a new dial.

Beautiful watch

I found a similar defect when I picked up the Daytona in white gold with a Ghost dial (116519LN). Ultimately, I decided not to pick up this watch.

Matthew! I have not seen you here in some time. I would contact Rolex via email. They are pretty good at scrutinizing before you send them your watch. If you cannot unsee it, then see if Rolex can swap out the dial. Overall, how do you like this reference?

Dial Defect in new YM40

Welcome back after 10 months off.

Based on your 5/5 RSC negative experience, I believe #4 (Sell it) is your least stressful path.

RSC won’t say anything useful in a reply to the email you plan to send. All they can say is “send it in for warranty service”.

My RSC-NY experience has been 3/3 perfect so send it to me and I’ll take care of it with them for you…

I agree. It just sucks because you just feel like they see doing you such a favor when they sell you a sports piece that you shouldn’t complain about anything. I really don’t know what to do.

Haha I may just do that. Thank you for your input!

If you bought it new from an AD and you're not 100% happy with it, I would simply tell the AD this and ask them to get you another one (or a different watch altogether).

The other side would be waiting 20-30 years and selling it for a premium as the "rare error dial variation" LOL.

I've had good experiences with RSCNY. Give them a call and ask. Couldn't hurt.

I would take back to AD. Photograph and video the watch in the showroom in front of the SA. Have them confirm that there is not other damage on the watch and let them know that you will be checking it closely upon return from RSC. Maybe you can put a note about the previous damage that you have experienced with watches that came back from RSC. Maybe they’ll get the watch to the A tier techs.
