My sub has been my daily wear for now 8 years…the thing is beat up. But that is what these watches are for. I used to baby it for the first few months, but once you get that first deep scratch and no longer care, just wear it. We dont work hard and spend a lot on these watches for them not to be worn!!

At $10k new Rolex watches are more of luxury rather than a tool instrument...

So what is the point of beating up a luxury item? I always wear my watches carefully and take good care of them.

I only have one Rolex, a Submariner 14060 2-liner, which has been my daily watch for nearly 28 years. Never babied it, and couldn´t care less about all the scratches, swirls and dings it´s collected over the years. I love it as it is! This has been posted before, but I still think it´s funny

All mine are stored delicately behind individual impact resistant polycarbonate cases. Also with stick on protectors for added protection.

They’re called watches people.

They’re meant for watching

It’s in the name…

Jeez… get a grip

I wear and use my watches without abusing them if that makes sense. Wear and tear happens, but no need to go overboard. Wouldn’t you avoid a bad pothole ridden road if you were in a Ferrari? Doesn’t mean you never take it over 80mph or some hard curves though.

I’m reasonably careful with my watches, but still wear them daily in rotation. My wife wears her Datejust like it’s a G-Shock.

Just picked up my sub date 2 weeks ago. It's my daily and plan on wearing it for the next 20 yrs. It's already been to the pool and weekly soaks in my backyard hot tub.

I don't baby any of my watches. I do not wear my 14000 Air King much, because it will be the watch I wear when I retire in 2 year's.

I have 8 watches. Rolex and AP. I rotate them for use. All on winders. So each watch gets a few days per month. My watches are pristine. I don’t baby them. But if one gets scratched badly I will send it into service for a polish and or service. Only had to do it once for my gold Daytona. Had the bezel replaced because I banged it really bad. Too deep for a polish fix.

I’m a little in between I love to wear my watches and understand they will show signs of wear with minor scratches and if I have to do I wear one I’m happy to be my beater that stands up to virtually anything

You should poll who earned their wealth for themselves and who inherited/were born into it. Will get a similar split if folks are being honest.

I used to beat the heck out of my 124060 then this happened. It went to the RSC and was fixed under warranty. The whole process was pretty quick (about a month) and I am satisfied.

With that being said, I do baby my Rolex a bit more now. I also recently purchased a Pelagos 39 as more of a “beater” and it is my GADA watch now.

I don't baby mine, but I also don't wear them doing DIY projects where I know they would be subject to abnormal abuse. Then again, when I'm doing nasty/messy/sweaty DIY type of jobs, I'm not bothering to wear any watch, including my beater. Just seems weird to wear a watch when doing those heavy duty dirty tasks/jobs.

What has that got to do with the current thread?

I don't baby mine.

However I learned a bitter lesson: a Rolex is not invincible. I was welding in my garage and my SD43 caught a dot of splatter on the ceramic bezel. It left behind a permanent 'spot' that cannot be buffed out.

So, now I wear my Tudor if I'm doing anything somewhat rough (working on a car, out on the river, mountain biking etc.) (Or visiting Barcelona)

I don't baby my watches, but I'm aware that there are watches that are more appropriate for certain activities than others.

The Rolex and Tudor watches that are fifty years old or more are going to be worn with more discretion than a Seiko 5.

On the other hand, I don't worry about minor dings, scuffs, and scratches on any of my watches. That's just life.

I personally don't like scratches on my watch, hence I wear them carefully as I can, but it don't worry much about it especially when I wear my daily, because they can be unavoidable sometimes.

This! There’s a reason I own watches from different brands across different price points. My g-shock, Seiko & Tudor BB58 go with me to the gym. My Rolex & Oris fit the bill when I want something that looks nicer on my wrist for different occasions.
