Congratulations! What a beautiful piece! I really love the vintage look of the 1908 line. Very classy! The display caseback is also pretty amazing. Enjoy!

Before buying a 1908 I am going to wait to see what Rolex does next year and the year after. I do not like the Arabic numerals which really makes the watch too casual IMO. I’d rather have all stick index markers and no Arabic numerals. Also I’m sure at some point a moonphase will be coming and I’d bet retail on that will be $33-35k.

Also not fond of the open caseback. This isn’t a Vacheron Constintin Patrimony with hand finishing to be marveled, it’s the same machine finished durable Rolex movement as pretty much any other Rolex. I would MUCH rather have a solid caseback and an extra ounce of gold and heft on my wrist than an extra piece of glass. Prices go up, gold content goes down.

Manufacurers LOVE open sapphire Crystal case backs to increase profits and reduce costs on precious metal watches. Rolex will save many millions by having an open caseback.

@patekfinder the Arabic 3, 9 & 12 are what sold me on the watch. My PP Calatravas all have stick indexes only… I needed something different to justify adding to my collection. Also I like sapphire back, first Rolex movement I can actually see without having to remove the back of the watch.

If you are looking for an alternative complication to a PP I suggest you checkout the Breitling Datora line… they have some nice pieces. I picked up a digraph last year.

I recently bought a Cellini Moonphase. I’ve owned many calatravas over the years including the 6006G, 5296G, 5227R, and 5196J. I never kept any of them and eventually sold all of them within a year if owning them because they just lacked something and didn’t captivate me. The Cellini Moonphase is so amazing and interesting when I look at it, and I’d very much consider a terminal watch I’ll never sell. I plan to eventually engrave the caseback with something meaningful. The one Calatrava I’d like eventually is the 5119J, but again, I don’t like the open caseback as it displays a movement that is half the size of the case! The Rolex movement in the 1908 is really beautiful and I do love to look at it, but my preference would still be a solid caseback just to maximize the weight/heft if the precious metal as well as to have a space to make a real heirloom piece with a meaningful engraving.
