That is a beautiful TT Daytona reference with a masterpiece of a movement inside.
It’s a lot more upscale looking than what you have so as long as you know this going in with your personal style. It’s also a lot more watch than your Explorer however you want to look at it.

No, no, and in case you missed it, NO.

I have a watch collecting philosophy that when one comes in…. One must go out.

This keeps my financial exposure in check and in theory improves the quality of my collection.

I work in finance and whilst I indulge myself - I keep a check on it.

The means when I make a trade - that the one coming in needs to be better than the one going out.

I also believe you have to have experiences in life and I have been lucky to own some lovely watches that have moved on. (Royal Oak 14080, VC Overseas Chrono) being two examples.

(Over time I have sold pieces against this philosophy to finance other things in life.)

I can’t wear more than one watch and a collection of 6 pieces is enough to rotate.

Some watches that won’t be sold (my father’s Datejust, a seamaster which I have “gifted” to my son and an IWC my wife bought me).

I also have two Pateks (a 70s Calatrava and a 5009) which are the cornerstone of my collecting and which I don’t want to sell.

Which means that if the Daytona comes in… I can only sell the Explorer.

Yes I love it. But I don’t have a Chrono, I am in to cars and the Daytona has that racing connection and lastly it is an experience which if I was under pressure financially I could realise most of my money back…

Do I like it more than the Explorer? I think I like it as the next step on my journey.

I wouldn’t do it but I love the Exp II and I don’t really like the Daytona. You stated you also love the Explorer II so I’d keep it. If you REALLY want a Daytona maybe just add it since you did say you gifted the Omega to your son anyway so technically you are down to five.

Removing the money aspect for a moment: I think the TT Daytona with gold dial is more attractive than the 214xxx Exp2. I think the Exp2s have gotten too big & I don't like the way the orange GMT hand looks. The 5-digit Exp2s were absolutely perfect IMO.

I agree they are a big bigger than I normally like as I prefer 40mm or less but the orange GMT hand is my favorite part!! Haha

Would you trade

I was never going to own a TT watch.

Until I did.

I don’t know if it would be my only watch, but I love wearing it.

You do you. If the monies make sense, go with your heart.

It's not the worst idea OP and it sounds like you won't be disappointed if you made the trade. Whilst I understand your reasoning for wanting to keep the collection small I think you should try and at least bend your own rules here.

The Exp II is a great watch and if you don't think you will be able to get another SS from the AD then I'd suggest keeping hold of this and adding the Daytona. For me, the TT Daytona would be too flashy to wear every day and at least one SS piece would allow a bit of variance. The other point to consider is that it's not a great market to sell a watch at the moment, so you may not get the best value for the Exp II.

Get the daytona, the newer explorers are too big! 16570s were the golden era for the expIIs.

Also in my 50s. I absolutely LOVE my TT Daytona. Mine is a black/diamond dial and those who know watches KNOW when they see it. Most of the time nobody knows or cares except you - so the call really comes down to whether YOU like it and it fits YOUR style, no matter what anyone else on the forum says.

The Daytona will be more comfortable on the wrist. It’s the most comfortable professional model Rolex makes. It will spoil you. Just sayin…….

I'm looking to buy new Daytona TT with champagne dial (126503).
Does anyone have this exact model? I'm looking for wrist pictures... as I never seen it in person.

I can't take my eyes off picture below, I just love it.

You’re probably talking about the 226570 rather than a 226579. Personally I prefer the 16570, but anyway I would not trade an Explorer II for a Daytona. The Daytona is for me like a 911, everybody has one or wants one. Be bold, be different.

If you find it more attractive, than your Explorer ll (I certainly do), then go for it. It’s a better piece, in every sense, IMO.

The Daytona is a perfect watch, I have owned may variations. My first Daytona was the TT champagne dial Daytona. I have to say it was a great watch and would never hesitate to have one and I always wore it more than the expII

Based on the fact you wear a suit daily for work, the Daytona would probably be a better daily watch.

I'd stick to the explorer 2 - a two tone daytona does nothing for me
