Not sure I would’ve taken my name off the list. As many others are on the list it doesn’t really make a statement or anything.
I don’t see what it would’ve hurt just to stay on it even if you were going through the secondary market. Nothing tied up really in just waiting.

When you get to a certain age the prospect of waiting for a maybe doesn’t sit well with me. While leaving my name on the list was certainly an option, it’s easier just to let it go and release the funds for something else.
I have a reasonable collection of various makes and don’t see Rolex as the be all and end all. There’s lots of interesting stuff out there.

I went into a Ferrari dealership the other day and told them I didn't want to buy a Ferrari.

I feel the pain. I did the same thing over a Starbucks. My AD had two on Exhibition. Neither for sale and I was on the expression of interest database, not a list. As that's the only watch I want, my wife doesn't want more jewellery I was stuffed. Apart from feeling uncomfortable about 'Sucking Up' to give a business £10k pretty please. So I went grey for £12.5k and have my watch. I don't know how long I'll last but it'll be with my Rolex

I see no issues with staying on a list but tempered with low expectations. The SS Daytona is certainly in a league of its own as far as how different ADs handle their distributions of it.
I bought my first watch from my current Rolex only Boutique in late 2017 when the demand creep was first starting. I didn’t ask for a Daytona then but my longtime SA who knew I’d had several told me the release of the 116500 the year before had become the start of a new store policy. They would keep lists for popular models but no longer than they could expect to fulfill within two years, the SS Daytona list was closed at that time. Fast forward to early 2019 he asked me if I was interested in one, the separate lists for black and white were down enough that he could add me if I wanted. No difference in “requirements” but the list was twice as long for white as it was for black, lucky for me that’s what I wanted based on my 116520 experience of owning both. They knew how many they would get that year and the whole experience was very transparent. It was delivered nine months later, well within the initial estimate of “within a year.” I haven’t seen a 12 series yet but nothing I have seen makes me want to seek one, too similar to what I have already. And even though I have received two more desirable models from them since, I think my status there may not warrant another allocation, grateful for the one I have. OP, I would have just left my request open, you never know if and when it might materialize. OTOH, there’s no way I’d pay reseller price, it’s just a watch. |

That was my original choice but that wait time was why I went with the Daytona.

If you're still in the market for a chronograph, why not look at the 38mm El Primero? It's the same(ish) movement that the 80s Daytonas had... Or if you specifically want a Daytona... for reasons... there's a gajillion of them for sale online.

Wouldn't it make sense to keep your name on the list but also search elsewhere? Doesn't seem like it needs to be a one or the other type deal

Good for you. There are infinitely more interesting Chronograph designs out there. But just so you know, other coveted grass out there isn’t necessarily any greener. …and the grass that isn’t coveted? Well you figure that one out when you have a taste for yourself. |

Taking your name off an imaginary list for a watch you'll never get.
You've really stuck it to the man ! [Good for you BTW] |

You get to enjoy the watch on your time and you probably won't lose any money in the process.

Also canceled after years waiting for a Sub, Sub Date or LV.
Basically, I want to walk in and look around without a “cardboard beggar sign.” (Anything appreciated). They know I was interested, if they wanted to sell me one, they had plenty opportunity. Tomorrow is a new day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Played the Ferrari game for decades before the Rolex game existed. In the end Lambo eventually improved their product and allowed me to order a car. Never looked back.

I have plenty and more is sort of crazy. I already told the SA I don’t have enough time to play the waiting game!
