From my past experience and mistakes, ONE that you LOVE is better than 50 you like...

Me too. 45K is a ton of money to spend if you have to ask people how to spend it.

I was quite hesitant about this, nothing more, I've made quite a lot of money in the last year, so some kind of reward is in order.

How about I take the money and you can call me anytime you like and I will tell you what time it is?

Out of the options given I’d go for the one gold Rolex

I rather one high quality watch such as a Rolex over 10 lesser quality watches. Rolex are durable, reliable, and will last a lifetime

One Rolex vs more watches

I’d be afraid the all gold would be uncomfortably heavy. I notice the difference in my TT vs my SS 36 mm pieces. The TT is noticeably heavier, on wrist. I don’t mind it, but I might mind the weight of an all gold piece. Then there’s the one watch thing. If you know me, you know that wouldn’t work, for me.

I’d ditch the YG chain (which I’m going to take a guess may not be a subtle one), which then gets around the need for the matching watch.

Then you can go down the mutiple watch option getting pieces for various occasions, whilst maintaining the budget for a stylish chain or two!!

I don't think I could consolidate to 1 one. I currently have 7 and rarely wear the same watch two days in a row. Heck, I sometimes where 2 different watches a day. I like the variety too much. Now, I will admit that 7 is about the limit of what makes sense to me. I think 3 to 5 could be manageable if I was forced to downsize.

Depends where you are on your watch collecting journey. For me, I could never have just one watch. I like to change it up too much. I have a few SS models, Navitimer on a leather strap, a couple of Tudors on a leather strap, a couple of two tone models on jubilee's and now most recently a PM Daytona on an OF. Love them all. But I must admit, I like the PM the best.

Whilst I’d love to one day own a full PM, perhaps eventually consolidating my collection into this, for now it doesn’t suit my lifestyle, work environment etc

For that money you could get three Rolexes….if it’s PM you want, then get it

One wouldn't be enough for me, I'd need a gold Rolex (no oysterflex) and a moonwatch.

I think about that many times. I would keep one SS Rolex (Pepsi) and trade the rest in on a Smurf. One day I am ready to do it and the next I am not. I just can't make a decision.

From your choices I’d go with the one PM Rolex.

Another option to consider if you’re interested in a one and done would be to consider a TT sub…either the blue or black. They’re great watches with a ton of wrist presence and just might scratch all of those itches…with a lot of money left in the bank.

Good luck…there’s no right or wrong answer here.

Edit: A TT GMT or DJ would also be an option

I know it’s totally punting on the question, but that’s something only you can answer, based on what gives you pleasure. If it’s the one PM Rolex, do that. If you want variety, mix it up. I’ve seen so many threads here over the years of a guy waiting years for his grail, getting it, and then right away is on the hunt for the next one. Others are perfectly content with their one and only for decades. Only you know what will satisfy you.

Or, think if there’s anything else you can buy for $45k that would give you even more pleasure than a watch. I seriously shopped for a platinum DD (ice blue dial, of course), but when I realized that, for the same price, I could buy the classic car of my dreams, which I’ve wanted since I was a little kid, I went for the car. It’s brought me an immense amount of joy, and as much as I love watches, the thrill I get from driving my dream car and being part of the local car culture is far greater than the joy I’ve gotten from wearing a Rolex daily for over 20 years (which is substantial). For others it might be a trip or other experience, a room remodel, or a boat.

I bring this up because just asking the question itself conveys ambivalence.
