It's not just the size. It's the design. And at 41mm the DJ design looks off. Too much real estate on the dial and the hands are proportionally too thin.

That same design is perfect at 36mm, and has been since 1945, when men were just as big (and small) as they are today.

Nope. Try it on to confirm how you like it, but on my 7.5” wrist I much prefer the 36mm DJ.

I think the 36mm DJ is the perfect size for any wrist. The width of the bracelet is still ~20mm so proportionally it wears bigger than a 36, more like a 38 imo.

My wife says it looks small on my 7.3in /18.5cm wrist. I could wear it though, just not my favourite size.

To me, the 36 is too small on my 7.5” wrist. I love my 41, it’s perfect. But it’s all in the eye of the beholder.

I think 41mm is too big, but don't know really.

Any ideas, experience, thoughts?

Thanks!

Btw, one of my daily watches is Oris Divers 65 and I think it's 40mm and 48mm lug-to-lug and it's perfect size.
41mm is actually around 39mm. So, with your wrist size of 7.5 inches, you should get DJ 39 or 41 whatever they call it - the bigger one. Dj36 is just small for you. Don't do this mistake as many here are transitioned from DJ36, so will still suggest 36 but the newer version is clearly a better choice for your wrist size.

Fully agree, looks stretched out to me. The 36mm is better looking by a mile. I have no issues with 36mm on my 7.5" wrist. They look great.

Watch size is subjective but I have found the best looking watches are ones that are proportionate to the wearers size. With a 7.5 inch wrist and being self described as a bigger guy, the 36mm is too small. Does that mean you can not wear one, of course not, but if you are asking, the doubt is there. In the last few years the army of posters who decry the larger size watches are ceaseless. Only followed by the crew that incessantly talks about the thickness of a watch. Go try them both on at the same time and in the various styles and see which one works the best for you. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

It really is just a matter of style within certain limits. A 7.25 wrist like mine is pretty middle of the road and while 36 would be fine, 39 is hardly "too big".

IMHO this is the best answer. A 36mm DJ, OP or Explorer Rolex works just fine for a spectrum from Tinker Bell to Andre the Giant!

Although my all time favorite watch is my 39mm 214270 Explorer Mk2, today I’m wearing my 36mm 114270 Explorer on a Delugs strap with quick release spring bars that lately I seem to grab on the fly more than anything else in my collection.

Depends if you’ve got any class. I have a 7.75” wrist and the 41 is just too big for a time only watch. The 36 is perfect.

Interesting. Can you imagine what size watch you'll be wearing in ten years when your eyes further deteriorate?

41mm is relatively new in the lifespan of the DJ

7.5" wrists wore the DJ at 36mm for decades.

Sure the fashions have changed, but style is everlasting.

If you like it on your wrist, get it.

Hope you enjoy

That’s a good point, too. The time only dial just seems like it should be 36 mm, not 41. It’s more balanced, and the size is more elegant.

I find the proportions of the 36 more appealing. I don’t think it would look small on you.

I'm 6'4", 230lbs, 7.5 wrists, and enjoy wearing my Rolex 18238 Day-Date, looks fine, and wears so comfortably. It can be blingy though.

It's never the size of the watch generally that is the problem, it's how you feel about the watch. 34mm and smaller was the norm for decades.

Granted, wearing a 60mm Invicta might cause some arm damage and puzzled looks...

edited to add, for my next watch, I've been looking at a Patek Perpetual Calendar, the Patek 5040j, which is 1mm smaller than the DD and is classic Patek and looks superb on the wrist.

My first choice has been the much larger Patek 5135j Annual Calendar, again, it a personal connection with the watch that matters, to me at least.

I have a 36mm datejust smooth bezel on jubilee with a 7.5” wrist and love the size.
For me I wanted 36mm fluted or 41mm smooth, but when I saw 36mm with the fluted motif dial, I had to have it.

I have a flat 7 inch wrist and tried them both. The 36 looks like a woman’s watch on me. I however, am not a woman.

Since the 41 isn’t 41 I say get the 41. To me the 36 is too 36-24-36 for a 7.5, if you know what I mean.

Your personal style will really determine this. I'd say think about the watches you've loved having on your wrist the most and determine where 36 vs 41 fits in comparison. For example, some people with 7+ inch wrists still wear the Patek Philippe Ellipse and thats a 32mm watch, but very classy!

I have a 7.25” wrist and wear a DJ36 often. That being said it is probly as small as I would go but it’s the best size for a datejust or day-date in my opinion.

Is Rolex Datejust 36 too small for a 7.5 inch wrist (19cm)

Everything between 36mm and 48mm is okay for me ->if<-I like the watch.
Nothing wrong with the 36mm DJ and a big wrist.

Not with me anymore.

For the DJ, agreed, as it's a larger design. For the OP, or Explorer 36mm is too small as they wear like a 34mm.

Put a 36mm OP or Explorer on a 7.5" wrist and you will look like you are wearing a ladies watch. it looks awkwardly small.
