I can see your point, but I do like all the references.

However, the nickname debate over watches like Pepsi or Sprite or Ghost does crack me up.

Why do people get so upset? It seems to be a badge of honor to remember five or six numbers as if someone is Rain Man. It's much easier to know nicknames. Coke or Hulk are all easier to recall than a list of numbers. Also, they are a heck of a lot quicker to look up on Google than a license-plate of digits if you need to.

I swear the other day, I think a response was, "Also, what the hell is a __________?" in a thread. The person was in the camp, I would guess, of the nickname haters. He could have just Googled Rolex Hulk in half the time it took to quote the original and write, "Also, what the hell is a Superman?"

But he didn't, and I realized it's not always what's easier on here; it's often what's easier to be contrary.

I vastly prefer my GMT over my sub. The fit is so much better and it's a lot dressier with the jubilee bracelet. I do love my sub too but for more casual wear.

Just look at their autofill search and if you click on a nickname, the correct reference appears. Even if you misspell, it figures it out.

For as many watches Rolex produces - and has produced , I don’t see that many out in the wild. I live in a big important city in mid-Atlantic USA.

Depends where you are , nice stores, restaurants, business. friends. Yet yes you see Rolex, but not, as if a nonstop sighting ( maybe in the Hampton or NYC, Miami, but still in higher end environments.

So variations can be fun to see, even if you don’t like some.

Yeah, that’s not exactly a lot compared to the Seamaster, Speedmaster, Navitimer, Royal Oak, et al.

I think even the Aquanaut and Nautilus give you a lot more choices than that. I didn’t actually check, but I’m pretty sure. No doubt someone will correct me if I’m wrong. lol.

I would argue the GMT Master is the most popular model at this point. Even with all the color variations, it is nearly impossible to get any of them from an AD. lol

I don't know why but I love that Rolex doesn't ... cross-pollinate.

I don't mind bezel and material permuations, so I've no big issue with the current GMT line-up.

What I really don't want Rolex to do is release a GMT chrono. Or a Sub GMT. Or a Daytona moonphase. Or a Milgauss world-timer.

I don't know why I feel this: in general, options should be better, and I know Rolex has some mix-and-match vintage models. But I just like ... clear-cut separation. The Yachtmaster was already a bit of a blurry stretch.
