I actually think the claps are the same length.

It’s slightly wider on the 12xx though

I've had my 116610LN for almost seven years. The 40mm case and 20mm/16mm bracelet wear perfectly, and it has been consistently +1spd. I have no interest in the 12XXXX series.

I think this is correct (based on my measurements) as I have 5 digit, an 11 series, and 12 series subs. As I;ve stated in other threads, over 10 yrs ago I was able to source glidelock clasps (from 92700 bracelets) to put on my 5 digit subs (and a 16710 GMT). The tuna can clasps dug into my wrist - a no go for me. So, I;ve been wearing the glidelock for years on 5 digit watches - works perfect for me.

It's very personal I know, but the 5 digit is close to perfection (with glidelock), followed very closely by the 12 series (overall about even for me). My 11 series wears ok, just proportionately isn;t quite right (again, for me). Ruined? not for me

The newer ones don’t look or feel right on me. I wish I had the case of the 16610, with a maxi dial, and an updated, but shorter glidelock bracelet clasp. A nice ceramic bezel would be welcomed, too. To answer the OP’s question, they certainly did not ruin the Submariner.

Owned both, 12 is a better fir for my smaller wrist. Plus superior movement in terms of hour reserve keeps it alive over the weekend when Daytona shows up.

I had for 12 series for a few months and looks wise it was amazing but wearing comfort was lacking.

The 21mm bracelet and gigantic clasp were a no go for me. I have the BLNR now and it’s perfect on the wrist.

Ruined, no. I own all of em, and find myself wearing the 114060 the most. Can’t tell you why, it’s just the one I gravitate towards. With that in mind, I truly love all the generations.

The movement issues are a definite concern on the 12 vs 11. 11 is a chunk but a nice watch. Robust like a tool. The 16600 is the peak 5 sub (SD) to me.

I have 2 12s a sub and a bluesy. Love em both. If I had an 11 I would probably like it too....have no interest in the non ceramic bezel subs.

I agree. I have both of these also and the BLNR is slightly more comfortable with jubilee of course.

5 digit subs with the easy link mod is the best of both worlds. Have them in my life long 16610Ln from 1991 and my 2008 16610LV. Now I get a tighter fit with the convenience of the easy link extension

No. The 116610 was an unattractive watch with shoulder pads. The 126610 case is absolutely better proportioned.

Only thing keeping me from buying one is the 32xx movement, but I imagine they’ll fix that, eventually.

I think the 11 series is a bit more charming. Wish the lugs were a little less chubby, but something feels off about 12 series. 11 series feels vintage compared to the 12 series.

Did they ruin it? No. Marketing at Rolex made a genius decision to transition their watches to fashion jewelry. Sales have never been better.

For me, I wouldn’t even consider a modern submariner. Too big, too shiny, and the clasp is a country mile long. Far cry from the submariners that initially got me interested in the brand, as is the case with most modern models. Some call it “evolution” I call it catering to a different market.

I have mixed views - I have no doubt the 124060 is nicer than the 114060.

I think the rest might be down to age - I prefer the 5 digits in the same way I prefer a Porsche 993 or an E46 M3. I think it’s the influence of aspiration and what the heart desires during early adult years when these things are just about affordable. And it sticks.

It’s hard to argue against ceramic, modern bracelets and glidelock for daily wear though so I would be torn between a late 5 digit and a 124060.

To answer the original question, have they ruined it? No - it’s a much better watch but whether or not you prefer it is up to you.

I do like the case shape of the latest Subs also however the larger size is not best suited my wrist, 40mm max for me.. having tried one it was a little bigger than I'm comfortable with.

5 series Subs: the best proportions for the Sub case without any doubt, but the bracelets are indeed disappointing.
6 series 11xxxx bracelets are good, but the case proportions are not at all satisfactory.
6 series 12xxxx bracelets are even better in terms of proportions with the case, and the case is a massive improvement over the 11xxxx. Not as good as the 5 series, although acceptable.
All of this is my personal opinion, obviously.
