Anyone careful with jackets scratching there watch?

Life would be so much easier for many if those stickers that the AD is so keen to remove at point of sale were left in place.

It's not just hard stuff. Overtime any material will dull the high gloss finish of gold. Look at most gold wristwatches from 1980 back and they are covered with small hairline scratches and overall dull in appearance. This is from the starched cuffs/woolens which abraded the watch all day long.

I'm lucky to live in Florida, where jackets & even long sleeves are rare, lol

I just avoid wearing bracelets on my left wrist. They tend to migrate beneath the watch and scratch the heck out of the case back. Lesson learned the hard way, but , thankfully, with a few Seikos, not my Rolexes.

i see the opposite = i have many tailored suits and shirts, where the submariner has frayed the anterior left cuff of the suits and shirts. This happens less with a smooth bezel and even less with a thin dress watch

Always. With heavy weight jackets with metal cuff snaps, I put those little green felt circle stickers over them on the inside. I have been doing this for decades. It take so little effort to scratch proof vs heavy scratches on a expensive watch.

Jacket zipper has undoubtedly done damage in the past, so I wear with extreme caution these days. It sounds silly and over the top, but for the most part, the caution is taken care of subconsciously at this point.

Absolutely correct and it doesn’t sound silly at all. We’re protecting something that’s not cheap and is very important to us.

You're right to be concerned about that. every time I wear a jacket a coat a heavy long sleeve shirt I'm careful about making sure it doesn't rub against my watch. So far so good I try to be very careful like you are and hope for the best.

Have you noticed the flip lock putting a mark on the bracelet link it opens into?
The Rolex Oyster bracelet typically features a Oysterclasp which secures with a flip lock mechanism for a reliable and secure closure.
I have started putting a type of clear thin vinyl on that small area of the bracelet link that the flip lock flips open into, similar to the sticker material that Rolex used to protect it's new watches.

I can provide a tip. There are those velcro adhesives available in many many sizes pre coated with 3m industrial strength glue There are multiple sized round versions. There is an exact one in $2 mixed sized set that covers those metal press buttons. Use the soft side not the harder hook side. The back of the metal button is a perfectly flat and clean surface to adhere to. I haven’t had one fall off - ever.

Couldn’t agree more. My Barbour jacket is the one item of clothing I’m careful with - darn metal buttons round the inside of the cuff.

I only wear that jacket now if I have a thick jumper on. Which sadly in the UK is quite often.

While I haven’t thought about it, I wouldn’t intentionally keep wearing an item of clothing that was continually scratching my watch (without some mitigation as suggested by others). I absolutely love the natural patina / wear that forms with our timepieces but I won’t be looking to accelerate it through the example highlighted by the OP.

Would you be so kind and attach a photo of what a velcro adhesive is? When I purchased Ex36 in March wearing a new jacket I scratched the bracelet puttimg on the coat when leaving the dealer. Urgh…

There are many sizes and also multi-size packages. Get the heavy duty like the image and original velcro brand I have found to be the strongest and durable adhesive.

I have a few flannels that have metal snaps rather than buttons. Those I always have to wear with the sleeves at least partially folded up. Cant have any metal scratching up my watches.

Never gave it a thought until one winter day I went out to use the snowblower to remove heavy snow. The constant wrist supination against the jacket sleeve buttons scratched and dug the hell out of the bracelet, particularly the polished steel.

Both my leather jackets (bomber and moto) have bronze zippers that are very robust and I often worry about scratching my watch if I was not careful putting on/taking off these jackets. Been lucky so far.

Sweet jesus I don't think I could wear a watch is I worried about scratches as much as some do on this post. Some must be constantly on edge about scratching it, just enjoy it and done worry....... It's a scratch.
