I think the issue is more with foreigners entering the US. I’ve been stopped and sent to secondary as well and have to say it’s a bit unnerving.

We want you to come up here to buy your watches

I’ve personally been pulled into the little garage thing maybe half a dozen times. Pretty evenly split between USBP and CBP. Always mostly friendly. I can only imagine it’s a nightmare for anyone who profiles a certain way. I have enjoyed some privilege no doubt being a white guy who lives nearby.

I come to Canada for food and drink mostly Brian. They stopped selling me watches ten year ago lol

I take it you don’t bother with Yorkdale any longer ?

Next time you’re up this way, let me know. I’ve been known to eat and drink

I honestly think with the current geopolitical situation a burner may not be the worst idea. They can usually be picked up from gas stations and the like. I used to use boost mobile ones a long time ago and they were decent.

I would even more recommend not stating political opinions/or things you may be worried about coming and biting you in the ass about online or social media.

Best of luck on your trip!!

Will do! Still visit Yorkdale occasionally but more for general shopping not watches. I use to be up in TO once every few months but now with young kids it’s harder. We mostly just hop over the bridge to hit local spots we like in Niagara on the lake and such.

Nope. I'm not on any social media, I only share my political views with close friends and family, which lead me not to speak to my brother for two years because of that but we're cool now, so anyone searching my phone would fall asleep. I subscribe around 10 local and international newspapers and read them everyday so I don't need social media or anything like that. I don't know if thats good or bad just the way I live my life.

TBH I'd never put myself in any situation I'd have my phone searched because that would be absurd.

I've been traveling to europe and nyc on the last 30 yrs, alone and with my wife, and the only time I was stopped was at customs last nov 2023. I don't travel in sweatpants or dress like a bum to avoid issues, or maybe I've been lucky so far, but the only time it happened I arrived at schiphol and my bag was the last to show up and when if finally did it was soaked. It took me a couple mintutes complaining to myself so I was the last person going through customs and three giant dudes were there heavily armed. I made the mistake of an eye contact for a split second and the guy stopped me. He said good morning sir, where are you coming from, where are you going etc. I told him I've been traveling to NL over the last 30 yrs, renting the same apartment on the last 22. He smiled and said oh..nice.. where's the apartment? I told him the adress right away and I said I was tired and couldn't wait to get there but if he wanted to search my bag no problem he was just doing his job. He said no need welcome to NL have a nice stay.

Other than that I never had any issues and I hope it stays that way.

If I have to reconsider my travel plans from now on so be it.

Neither did my wife. We were returning from the UK, flew business class, and were dressed like typical American retirees. My wife was dragging her Tumi carry on and wearing a TT DJ31. What suspicious profile could she possibly fall under?

Absolutely. I wasn't referring to you in any possible way. I'm sure you did nothing wrong, what it wrong is the current state of affairs as far as I see.

The OP is considering a burner phone to avoid issues and apparently his main concern would be his political opinions. That shouldn't be happening but it is what it is.

The only thing I can do for myself is be aware and make the best decisions so thank you for the heads up.
