is the 321 movement less accurate than the 3861?

I can't help but compare this watch to the Daytona (this is TRF after all), and I'm increasingly desiring one because it reminds me of why I originally wanted a Daytona all those years ago. Back before the hype, when grey market was where you go for a small discount from MSRP for a lightly worn Daytona.
I remember Daytona was the 2nd Rolex I wanted after I got my Sub, mainly because it was still a solid durable steel Rolex, but really the only one that wasn't readily available. I liked the idea of having a watch that most people wouldn't recognize, but the ones that did wouldn't think "hype" or "maybe more money than sense" but rather "he must really like that watch because it takes some patience and legwork to get it". Because that would be the story, with a little extra legwork and some patience, one could get a steel Daytona back then. I have similar feelings about the Ed White. Most won't recognize it, some will dismiss it as another moonwatch they see more frequently now thanks to the MoonSwatch, but those that actually recognize it will think "he must really like that watch". So yea, I'm really tempted to put my name down at the AD for one. |

If I were after a Speedy, this would definitely be the one I want. Followed closely by the 50th Silver Snoopy.

Is the 321 Ed White getting any easier to get at a Boutique?
I am seeing a lot of them, with recently issued warranty cards, offered on the grey market. Why can't the boutiques sell to those of us who plan on keeping the watches?

I was fortunate enough to unexpectedly pick one of these up the other day. Honestly, in person it exceeded my expectations. In response to the original OP’s question, in my opinion this isn’t a watch made to please the masses, this this for watch geeks like myself, who love the history that this watch represents along with the skill and craftsmanship it took to recreate it. I was that kid who at 4 years old in 1969, watched the moon landing (on an 3 channel TV) and became instantly fascinated by all things outer space so this watch speaks to me and brings back a lot of memories. To me the combination of its history, the men who wore it and my own memories give it a soul like no other watch I own. Yes, I know I am being incredibly over dramatic. 😁 I can’t get that from any other watch, nor can I put a price on it. Compared to a Daytona or many other watches, very few will have a similar reaction to this watch. I think the demographic is for those who love the history as much as they love the watches….. like many of your here, and that is what drives the difference in premium. Ok I’m done now… sorry to ramble on!

Nice. I don't have a Daytona or a Speedy, but I've been thinking about the 321 a lot recently. It has serious watch nerd appeal while staying very under the radar.

I too would like to know this, particularly from anyone located in the UK. Have an itch for my first speedmaster and considering the 321, is it worth going to a boutique/AD or better to go grey market as it seems there is a minimal premium on them at the moment?
