Well, Greg, my friend.............putting a quick-set date on a watch with a dual time-zone function might defeat the very purpose for which the watch was intended...............especially when travelling from East to West, when you have to move the hour hand backwards and, in many cases, change the DATE to the previous date so you move into the new time-zone.

JJ, my friend, you're wrong. Most TRUE GMT watches allow the wearer to quick-set the date in both directions i.e. Ulysse Nardin Dual Time, or a Sonata. Also, Eterna GMT, for instance has BOTH options, the setting of the date with the hour hand AND the quick-set function. Makes it easy for when you aren't traveling. The absence of the quick-set function on the GMT is definitely a nuisance for when you are not traveling. I know Sub is a diver, but you don't always have to have it submerged, do you?

"Can Rolex improve this baby any further? "

Probably. They did the last time the pundits said it was perfect and couldn't be improved. Time marches on, technology changes. What's spiffy today will be tomorrow's corny nostalgia.

Yeah, they can improve it..................they can improve the bracelet.

The GMTIIc has a bracelet unique to it that none of the other models has, and in this bracelet there's a very weak point where a part of the link nearest to the clasp can snap. I don't know if it's glued on, welded on, or what, but I've heard and seen that a couple of the GMTIIc links have snapped.

At least those were under warrantee and were replaced, but the first series sold will soon be out of warrantee.

Then the question is, what happens now????

I love the look of the domed, no-cyclops crystal in the DeepSea, that would look great on the GMT. I also like writing on the back. For the money they charge, Rolex should write a personal thank you on the back!

Hi guys,

As the proud owner of one of the BEST Rolex models to come out of Geneva in recent years, I just wonder if Rolex can do anything to improve this beauty any further?

I've always called it the GENIUS FROM ROLEX and I could be right.......I think!!

We could start by listing what ESSENTIAL features this watch DOES NOT have.........and I honestly can't think of any!! Okay, so it doesn't have a Chrono function, but how many of us here really use that?

Other than that, this watch can be used by any layman for virtually anything.............from Travel, Recreational diving, excellent time-keeping and, above all, enjoy and bask in the beauty of solid 18K gold and superbly crafted brushed steel.........all matched up with an excellent Ceramic bezel and a masterfully created bracelet!!

I haven't yet seen the thread were someone suggests removing the 24hr hand, adding gridlock, the thicker crystal and case back and calling it the new Sub.

Personally I think my GMT IIc is great as it is - though I might give in to the gridlock....and quickset date.

To each his own but the Rolex Day-Date (36mm) is my ultimate Rolex. No fancy Daytonas, no secret agent Subs, no 15 time-zone tracking complication. Just THE top of the line Rolex.

I hope to acquire one by the time I hit 50 Something to look forward and aspire to then. Thanks Rolex!

The extra depth rating on the 300m plus Rolex watches dont all come from the triplock. The case backs are thicker same for the cases on like watches like the sub SD.

I really like it but I think it is too thick/bulky. If they could do it in the Explorer 2 size I would be ok with it. I really like the slim profile of the exp2.

I can't believe this has not been said yet one of the finest improvements possible which Rolex could give this watch is........a lower price tag.

1) Have a choice of size, like on Omega Planet Ocean. 40mm (classic) and 43mm (modern big size). They may call the big one "GMT-Master III".

2) Coke and Pepsi bezel, of course. They would clash with the gold, but on the SS model they would be cool.

3) AR coating on the inside of the crystal. Why cannot Rolex do this? IMHO it would improve the overall look of the watch.

4) Power reserve indicator. Maybe Rolex refuses to do it to avoid cluttering the dial?

5) WG GMT IIC with a special bezel colour. Bronze, deep blue, deep green, maroon? Maybe same colour for the dial as well?

But frankly, I'd get the TT GMT IIC as is. I'm sure I would never miss those features. Well, not until I could get a Sub-C with GlideLock

I agree on points 2, 3, and the glidelock!

I LOVE THIS FORUM!!

I asked the Rolex representative at a large show which watch he wore since he had such a great selection. He said, "I wear the best made watch that Rolex makes", then pulled his sleeve up showed to show a SS GMT IIc. Bought one a month ago.

Take off the gold.
Brush finish the centre links.
Remove the ceramic bezel.
Replace with aluminium inset with old font.
Decorate insert in blue and red.
Change fourth hand to red.

Now that would be a great looking watch.

Just kidding BKL

For me.

Put a bracelet on it that looks like it belongs to the watch, it is simply too narrow at the lugs and seems to make the head unbalanced.

That is the reason that I sold mine and bought possibly the last BNIB GMT II in the UK.

JJ: I saw your post yesterday and I've been thinking about it. Mine's the stainless steel version and not two-tone, and I've been giving serious thought to what I like, don't like, or would change if I could. Quite honestly, my SS GMTIIc which I've had for a little over a year now is perfect in every way as far as my taste and needs. I really don't know what I'd change. It keeps incredibly accurate time (I NEVER reset it), is perfectly designed and balanced (sorry to disagree with the other poster), comfortable, and has the nicest bezel of any Rolex. Would I like to see a Pepsi version? Of course, but that would be a style option as opposed to an 'improvement'. Bottom line for me is that the GMTIIc is simply one of Rolex's greatest design and engineering achievements EVER.

Yes I think they could definitely improve the GMT II. The TT version just looks a little off to me. The color of the numbers in the bezel look a bit flat; I think they missed the color. Also the green hand and text looks very sharp on the SS but odd to me on the TT version? I think the red should be brought back but they won't. Otherwise the watch is perfect!

Nice watch. My improvements would be:

linen date wheel and gold font.

glidelock clasp

AR coating on the inside of the crystal, not just the cyclops

Older style tapered lugs

I think that's it!

JJ your watches are superb. I must say though, i also prefer the 24 hour hand in red rather than green. Does anybody know why it was changed to green ? was it anything to do with the aniversary ?
