I am pretty sure that I can replace my collection for 25% less than the C24 "valuation". They pull these numbers out of their behinds.

False. Their "valuations" are based on asking prices. I bought a watch a few weeks back. Seller knocked 15 percent off the listing price. When I added it to my "collection", it immediately increased in value by 25%.

C24 is like a stripper telling you that you are handsome while you buy her drinks and hand her 20's.

It's going to be higher than how much you can expect when you SELL your watch.

And it's also going to be lower than advertised prices on C24, which is how much sellers ask from their watches.

Knowing C24 handle so many transactions, I think the price trend on C24 is accurate. People use C24 as a reference, so in a way C24 makes the price.

Only has value if you sell. I'm not.

Yep. And sell for what? Paper dollars? Crypto? No way! Rolex is honest money like silver.

Sorry to say otherwise.

I was like you, convinced of that until the day I decided to put 2 of my Daytonas and a sub...
EVERYTHING was sold / reserved within 24 hours !!!!
I couldn't believe my eyes... I said to my wife: "I don't particularly want to sell but I'm going to try prohibitive prices"...
EVERYTHING has been sold... minus 6% of costs that I gladly pay for the service rendered.
Average negotiation on my 3 sales: ~5%

So yes, these are the market prices and people are buying at this price... CRAZY!

So the benefit of a unique daytona will pay for a complete collection of Grand Seiko...
This all doesn't make sense, I absolutely don't understand these prices on a brand that produces over a MILLION watches a year..

C24 is a good indicator of the cost of replacement.

It shows the average price you'd have to pay if you buy as a private individual. If you were to sell as a private seller, you'd never get these prices because you can't offer the same guarantee as a dealer. You could probably try to sell at 15% off and settle at 20% off. If you trade in to a dealer, it'll be at 30% off on a hot piece, worse even on a less desirable one. So the real profit is reduced by 15 to 30% on a desirable watch, depending on how you sell.

Hopefully they’d track the data you share too.
Even if it wasn’t a sale on their site. If you add your watches, the date you purchased and how much, and where, it’s all data they can use for sakes history for C24 and beyond.

It’s also a nice feature that you can type in your reference number and get all the combos that were produced for your specific watch.

Also my local jeweler who used to be an AD until last year, reviews and bases aftermarket prices for listing items based on that data.

Would be interesting to know if that date is included actually.

With the earnings that I would have according to Chrono24, I could buy a Tesla model 3 long range and a model 3 Performance.

C24 valuation prices are a joke. LOL

Minus that figure by at least 25-30%

Well that's new. OMG. A portfolio tool. For watches. That has to be the most uncool thing I've seen all 2022!

For fun, I have been following a particular watch with MSRP ~45k on C24 for a while. 5 month ago, there were 11 listed starting at twice MSRP. One might imagine that a 100%/$45k premium indicates a "hot" model.

Today, 9 out of the 11 listings (same seller, same model, same pictures) are still up, with prices adjusted by some nominal amount or not at all. This includes listings from two of the favorite TRF "trusted sellers".

There may be a few handful of models overall that are liquid/selling quickly at the typical asking prices. For most others, sellers appear to hang on at inflated prices waiting for someone to bite, rather than lower their ask for a quick sale.

C24 "worth" for this watch is $92k. Evidently that's the maximum price an established seller might hope to achieve if they are willing to wait many months for a buyer. I doubt a private seller looking for a quick turnaround could realize much, if any, of the supposed 45k "profit" on this watch.
