Regardless the trend, you should wear what makes you comfortable. I tried the 41 DJ. Didn't work as well with my 6.7 wrist. The 36 was a no brainer for me. It I had a 7.5 or bigger wrist, I would've probably picked the other one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Depends on what you have previously word. Before my DJ I had a 40mm Breitling Colt GMT. Took a while to get used to my 16200 DJ 36mm. :)

6.8 inch wrist here. If I could only wear one watch it would be the 36. However, I think I could pull off a 39 mm Explorer I. >:)

36mm is a perfect size, I love the look of anything smaller than 40mm on my 6.75 inch wrist.

I have a 6.5 inch wrist. I wear a 1983 15003 34mm that suits me just fine. I'm of the camp that if it looks and feels good to you, give it a whirl. I have a 1950 Longines that, while a men's watch, is positively dainty compared to modern watches.

The 36mm version is the original, classic and perfectly proportioned Datejust. I tried to love the 41mm version but it just didn't work for me.
It's not only about the actual size. It's about the design/proportions too. It just doesn't look right at 41mm. The 36mm has an elegance to the shape/size that is completely lost on the bigger version. The original size has worked for men for 75 years as the most successful Rolex ever ... so it always surprises me when guys wonder whether it's too small. Here's my latest, a 126234 on my 6.75-inch wrist. |

All depends on how you wear it. Loose it feels fine

Pics
What this thread needs is pics!
Well everyone responded, which is good. What isn't so good, in my opinion, is everyone zooming in as close as they can get to the watch on their wrist. In some cases you can hardly even see the wrist, just a gigantic closeup of the watch in question. There's no way in you-know-what that you could judge by the picture whether or not the watch is properly sized for the wrist. Just think about it. When you're at the AD or at home and you're checking out a watch to see how it fits, do you bring it right up to your face and say "Yeah, that looks great"? More likely you're going to hold your arm by your side or out in front of you to get a better feel for how it looks. It makes sense to get the same view in a photo if you're trying to judge appropriate watch size. Closeups are great if you want to show off a watch, and in truth some of these photos were great, but to answer the OP a more realistic shot of the watch as it sits on the arm would be much more helpful. Well that's my two cents. Not trying to be snarky here, just offering what I would hope to be some constructive criticism. |

Here are two somewhat similar photos of my DJ41 41mm and DD1803 36mm. I just noticed I need to cinch up the 1803...sorry
I don't know how big my wrist is. Size-wise, I prefer the 41. Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk |

The 36mm is so utilitarian insofar that it is so comfortable I sometimes forget I am wearing mine. :)

6.5 inches wrists here and I would go 36mm or even 34mm with a vintage AK. The 36mm is looking terrific on most wrist sizes, even bigger ones
