Well Rolexe's certainly are the most amazing watches in this world,...they are extremely good to look at and the materials used are just priceless..that is why each watch costs a hell lot of money,,which is insanely high.

Rolex would never stump up the cash influx that Omega does to get the Sub in the films, so it won't happen.... as we all know!

hopefully not a silly question.... but....

people talk about the true Bond sub being the 6538 (or 6200) but in the movies Bond's watch clearly has no individual minute markers on the bezel, where as all the shots I see of the 6538 do, so how is this the true Bond Sub?

Here is the James Bond 6538. Maybe its just the lighting or maybe the bezel without markers was optional. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Agreed! You know that ian Flemming actually wrote Rolex into the script whereas Omega has to pay for the endorsement...

That's what I said, but Fleming wrote the books, not the film scripts. Producers discretion. If stories are to be believed, Connery didn't wear a watch, and noticing this, the Rolex you see him wear in the first film was Cubby's.

First movie I remember a high end manufacturer paying for product placement was Mercedes Benz in "the Firm". In the book....Tom Cuise's character gets a BMW as a perk....not a MB. Shortly thereafter....Bond is driving a Bimmer.

As a Bond enthusiast (I have seen all the movies numerous times, read the books and memorized more than I would like to admit) I must say that the decisions that the new generations of Bond directors and producers has directly taken away from all that made a good Bond flick. Gadgets, one liners, and babes are all being overlooked for a darker reality based Bond, and even though I think Daniel Craig is excellent for the role I miss the nuances that made the Connery flicks so Iconic.

Omega paid their way to get the screen time but nothing beats the old Rolly on 007's wrist. Let's hope that they realize that there is still a huge following of Bond lovers who grew up on the films that would like to see some of the old iconic features of a Bond put back into the new genre of Bond movies.

Back in 1965, my dad bought me a Sub in Luzerne, for a $106.00. I believe he bought it at Bucherer, because, during the same trip, he bought himself a Bucherer gold dress watch with a mesh band. My Rolex was the smaller case...i guess it would be safe to call it a "James Bond". I remember clearly, at the time, In the U.S., Rolex was selling this smaller watch, which they referred to as 17 jewels, for $175.00 and the larger case with the crown protectors, which they referred to as 23 jewels, for $210.00.
I never had any luck with the watch; it always ran slow...lost a minute or more a day, and I used to send it back to Rolex in NYC every couple of years, to no avail. They finally told me that they no longer would be able to service it, it had too much wear and parts were scarce. Needless to say, this was very disappointing! I eventually found a guy off of 5th ave in NYC, named Don Laviano, who was able to get it to run reasonably well, but only for a short time. It languished in my drawer until about 1990 when I sold it for $400. I wish that I had it now!!

I agree to an extent, but I like the direction Bond is headed. We were just introduced to Moneypenny, M, and Q, plus they (officially) brought back the PPK, so maybe in the future we'll see a return to the nuances you spoke of and finally be able to stray from the Omegas Pierce Brosnan introduced.
