I am contacting my friend about this situation and will let him know his dial is nothing but a fake! I'll see what he has to say.

He has no personal or business gains from trying to pull my leg.

He must be quite courageous to wear such watch among all the members of the IWJG!!!!

Congrats! It looks pretty perfect.
To me, a lot of the appeal of the PN and vintage Daytonas
is in their clean and relatively simple dials.

I do have to agree with you Sirowhite, as close as I too will come to owning one of the incredable PN shown here. None the less, I love my 35th Aniversary Apollo 11. Nothing else I own is quite like it. Mine is number "11" in the series.

Mr. H, do not take personal offense... no one here is attacking you. With great confidence I can tell you the dial is not Rolex. It is an attempt to copy a PN Daytona (with marginal success).

As some here may recall I bought (and quickly returned) a high quality replica PN Daytona from Ed Faber of Aaron Faber Gallery here in NYC ..... and he is a founding member of the IWJG!!! That watch is probably still for sale in his 5th Avenue gallery.

'Pulsometer' as in something to measure the pulse with, yes that does make obvious sense!!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully I'll wake up in a minute.

I have to say that I like the look of that dial, I've never heard of them on Daytonas before.

Please allow me to be of help. The way the dial is intended to work is:
1. Start the chronograph fxn.
2. Start counting the patient's heart beat.
3. When you have counted 15 heart beats, stop the chronograph function.
4. The number on the dial corresponds to beats per minute.
For example: 15 pulses in 15 secs is 60 bpm. 15 pulses in 20 min is 45 bpm.

I bought this ref 6263 before there ever was such a thing as a Paul Newman Daytona:

Not exactly-6263 1970s-80's
PN dials appeared early 60's--given name PN after he wore one in
a 69 Indy racing movie-and he appeared wearing it on an Italian Magazine cover--thus
started calling the exotic dial the "Paul Newman" the name that has stuck with them ever since. FYI

Absolutely untrue--factory installed original dials. They made a 6263 with a PN dial. Check out the link in my last email. Nice watch Brent!

It would appear that there are two "Paul Newman" Daytona's. the one that he actually owns and the one that his name has been unofficially associated with. You'd think that the model of Rolex he actually owns (ie ref 6263 with black dial and white registers) and was given to him by his wife, Joanne Woodward, would actually be worth more than the one that he has become unofficially associated with?

"When I asked Mr. Newman about these theories, he stated that he was unaware of how his name became attached to the watch, and he didn't recall even wearing a Daytona in Winning. Furthermore, he stated that his first Daytona, and the one he currently wears, was given to him by his wife in 1972, the same year he started his professional racing career. It is worth mentioning that the aforementioned watch is not a Paul Newman (exotic dial) model at all, but rather appears to be a Daytona (model 6263), with black dial and white registers."

Watch nicknames are all over the place (ie never accurate)... an orange hand explorer II is called a "Steve McQueen" but there's no evidence of him EVER wearing one!! I wouldn't put too much substance to the nicknames... what it boils down to is the exotic dial daytonas being A TON more rare than the black/silver ones.
