Does the OP deserve congratulations for taking advantage of an uninformed seller who doesn't know the market price? Everyone is congratulating him on price.
Assuming the story is true and the goods are not fake or stolen, I'm not sure I would be proud of it.

It's probably worth noting that your original approach was prime to get scammed though...met seller on CL for under market with no warranty card and a photocopied receipt which you hadnt verified yet. Again, my congrats and you got extremely lucky. 9/10 deals with this situation would have gone south...just be careful in the future. Enjoy the Sub!

Why not ? How much do you think that guy would have gotten if he took his watch to an AD or pre-owned store to sell ? Probably about the same or less than he sold it for to the OP.

Congrats on a great deal!

We forget that most people are not knowledgable about the watch field.

I'd argue that Rolex's average client does not know how well their purchase retains value. Instead, they are simply buying at the time for a status symbol or for an accomplishment.

We all know that times can change. Couple that with a need for immediate cash and great deals do happen! (Or you get a crappy trade in/cash value at a dealer!)

Granted, there is always a risk, but not every deal is bad! I think often times we think the worst here- maybe out of jealousy ;)

So much negativity here lately in TRF, enjoy the heck out of the watch that comes the closest to perfection!
I'd like to think of it as well-intentioned skepticism. Not speaking for anyone else, I'm not trying to piss on OP's parade. I'm offering some food for thought in case he didn't get the deal he thought he did, and might still have some recourse. Based on everything he told us, it sounds like he may really have gotten an exceptional deal, but you can't blame those who at least question it. We are talking about Rolex after all - a brand that attracts fakers and scammers the way wine grapes attract fruit flies.

+1 on this
The OP paid the price the seller wanted and completed a transaction. Lighten up people. Congrats to the OP on a sweet watch.

OP said the seller had it shipped to him from an AD. How would the AD have been able to show him the compartment in-person?

C'mon people...not every Rolex owner is a WIS or knows the current market.

Likely stolen at that price as it’s around -$2K below what avg list is for that piece. I’d run the serial asap.

All the negative comments are just jealousy. I'm jealous too, but I wish you great health and great success wearing an amazing timepiece. Congrats a hundred times. If you feel the need to check it out, then so be it. It couldn't hurt just for your own piece of mind.

OP enjoy your catch. TRF autofeeds for outrageous used prices and some here just cant stand reality and hate it when these watches are undersold. I have a mint 1997 16713 with box and papers that I consigned to my AD. Got an offer for it with a full service included for ...guess $5000.

Congrats on the deal! It does sound perfectly legit from what you describe. Just sort of weird that someone would go to the lengths of getting a Rolex shipped from Hawaii (I presume to save on the tax), but then doesn't bother to do a simple 1-minute Google or eBay search when selling it to determine the optimal price, which is less than the work for the small tax savings to begin with.

Congratulations. Looks great and a solid deal. Plus, you did a terrific job with the scotchbrite. If you have before and after pics of the scratches I’d like to see it.

Again, congrats!!

At this point, the OP probably regrets sharing his good fortune on this forum about a great deal on a beautiful Rolex. I know I would.

The seller could have easily reported it stolen to his insurance company and collected a check.

So selling it to you quickly is extra icing on the cake.

When you send it to rolex for service in the future they can confiscate it if it was reported stolen and will be property of the insurance company since they paid the policy holder (seller)

Then, you'll be out of the watch AND $5,700.

Then it won't seem much like a deal at all.

Good things are usually too good to be true.

Good luck!

Wow, didn’t even think about that. I should keep that in mind next time I think about Rolex on CL. I too think it’s too good to be true, but ppl do get lucky.
