3 years ago I sold my 16570 to a friend of mine and advised him to have it serviced since it was 13 years old and I never sent it for service , he still wears it w/o any service and it's keeping good time it's a Y serial 2003 model ,so almost 17 years w/o any issues.

Got about 5 years out of my 16610 with daily wear before it started losing quite a bit of time and needed a service. It’s been going on 5 years since that service, hopefully it will run on spec for a few more. The thing is time without the watch and expense, why increase the service frequency unless necessary.

I will for sure Chicagowatchman! Looking at the picture, I guess it was beat up even more than I realized. I guess that's what happens after wearing it, working in it, playing in it, etc for 7,300 straight days!
Still don't have the quote for repairs, can't find any info on the factory closure, etc. Frustrating...

Depends on if you are using the watch when the movement is not functioning as intended. If the oil in the movement dries up and parts start grinding on parts, then parts can break. This will increase your labor cost (since it’s more hours to repair), and of course you’ll end up paying for a part that may not have otherwise broken if you’d just serviced the watch at the recommended service interval.

Of course, the part that breaks could be something dirt cheap that is easy to find... or it could be a part that is rare and no longer in production (not common with Rolex).

I got my 16710 that i bought in 2001 serviced for first time last year....it ran sweet as a nut for 19 years with out service now its been serviced it runs like a bag of spanners....should have left it alone for another 20yrs

My grandad wears a Datejust as his daily, 30 years and no service, keeps time fine.
The wonders of a well engineered time piece.

27 years on my 1603, although I will get it serviced shortly. The bracelet will need some work because the previous owner wore it too loose. Still keeps to within 1 sec/day depending on whether I leave it crown-up or flat.

18 years on a Sub. Never opened. Doing about +5 spd.

That said, I wouldn't dive with it right now without a service.

23 years on a 16013 Datejust. The reason I had it serviced was to replace the acrylic crystal with a sapphire crystal. I kept the old crystal. I got tired of polishing the old acrylic crystal. Also, the watch was a little beat up since I wore it all the time including doing yardwork. Keeping time was not an issue.

I rarely wear it anymore since I have moved into the Submariner series.

I can understand your logic to a point. The only fly in the ointment may be if you have a vintage watch. If you have a 60 year old Rolex and it breaks a major part through lack of lube, that part may not be available anymore. You may end up with useless watch. Had it been maintained properly, it may have lasted indefinletely.

my first rolex - steel sub with date - bought it in 1999 - first service was 2019 - 20 years zero problems - used it for everything - I only got it serviced cause an AD said it was beautiful and asked if I wanted to have the watch polished - I said sure polish and tune up - cost me 800 bucks- polished and several parts replaced and watch tuned - came back to my like the first day I bought it - like brand new

Bought DSSD in 2008 and had it serviced in 2019. Very close to 12 years. Did the service not because of having performance problems, but thought it was long overdue and did not want to carry the risk of more complicated repair service!

I have a 2006-2007 116509 Daytona (white gold with silver racing dial) and it runs within a few seconds a day...still has the green sticker on the back. Looks very clean....haven't serviced it because it has no issues and I know they will remove the green sticker/polish it and I don't want it touched if I can avoid it. I don't swim with it but I do wear it in the shower now and then and it's been no problem. Will probably get it serviced in the next couple of years though as I don't want to push my luck with it.
