Fabulous work OP.
It’s like looking through a Rolex display in Natural History Museum.
I’m absolutely fascinated by those dials and makes me appreciate my DJ Black MOP dial even more.

Very cool compilation. This post taught me that I’m not a fan of the stone dials. Except maybe onyx or jasper.

I assume this is just another example of ammonite, but it looks different enough from the one shown that it seems worth adding - Listed as “fossil” dial 18038 from 1983.
.
And, agreed this should definitely be a Sticky!

Go for one - You won’t be disappointed! I’d planned to get a YG one because the lapis often has gold veins in it, ... but then I fell *hard* for this WG one.

Agreed awesome. How about adding the GMT iI Meteorite dial ? They’re all rocks except one is falling from space right ?

Thanks for the fantastic post Rob

Few dials I have never seen

Noticed mostly on dj/dd.
And lot of tt.
Almost like an experimenting phase Rolex was going thru during the 80s. Lol.

Hi all, Hardly post in forum but these are my views:
1) Confetti Is not a stone dial but a normal brown dial which turned tropic.
2) that agate dial is after market
3) that ferrite dial is actually a moss agate dial. Moss agate or black stone (defined by Mondani) looks very similar to ferrite but with the broad black streaks.

Hm, the one I posted looks consistent with all the ferrite listings I've seen. I'll have to look more into "moss agate" though; thanks!

I can't say for sure but here's a video of it if you want to take a closer look.

I saw your description of your moss agate Day-Date on VRF years ago:

That description seems to match the "moss agate" 18238 Uhren-Miquel is selling:

Any thoughts on what kind of stone this is? Bonham's simply calls it a "rare hardstone dial."

Here's another angle:

I wonder if it is a factory stone dial at all - If so, it’s the only one I’ve seen with either baton indices or a painted chapter ring, and it has both. I wonder if perhaps it’s aftermarket granite, or even just damaged paint.

Ah, good point about the painted minute track. Also there's a lume dot right in the middle of "T SW⚪SS T" which I feel supports the aftermarket theory.

Three separate features - lume plots, painted minute track, and batons - all three of which are present here, but afaik none of these three are seen on any other factory stone dial. I didn’t even notice the lume, and you are right - The 6 lume is placed on top of the TST text.

Something’s wrong here ... Given that the stone itself is also unfamiliar, made-from-scratch seems most likely. (I also don’t recognize the bracelet, but it may just be one I’m not familiar with.)

Check out the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Daydate print, almost hitting the center of dial and far away from Coronet.
