Tudor gateway to rolex?

Omega, then Rolex, then Tudor. I like watches.

I started with a Tag Heuer "Zenith El Primero" Calibre 36 Movement...

Wanted the movement...and the zenith models were not "sporty" enough for my taste back in 2005 so the best option was a Tag Heuer Link Calibre 36.....pretty cool watch actually....I wore that daily from 2005 - 2015.....my son will get that one and he loves it because it was his dads.....hard to say no to that. I will say this, if and when he graduates from Iowa State University with a Chemical Engineering degree and gets his first job I plan on giving him my White dial Daytona 116500.

Now I cruise several Rolex models with Daytona and Submariners being my go to models among others in the works.

Love Rolex for many reasons, but financially I was just not able to start with them. I see a Patek 5270G-019 Blue Dial as my end game....and a crap ton of others for fun.

My long point short....there are many entry places to Rolex, but so many find Rolex one way or another. They are a solid brand.

Two questions. Are you serious and how old are you. Most ridiculous statement I've seen on this board and I've seen my share. 2 months ago I bought a fantastic Tudor
Pelagos LHD to add to my Pepsi Gmt, platinum yachtmaster, my first, a blue dial date, and my 116520 white dial Daytona. To assume someone who buys a Tudor can't afford a Rolex is so pompous and condescending it makes me embarrassed to even bother stopping by to read the usual interesting posts. This post in a nutshell is what's wrong with many people today. And that's a shame.

I have many watches including four Rolex before I bought a Tudor . I enjoy my Tudors in rotation with my other watches . In my life and my watch wearing I have nothing to prove to anybody .

I really think it can go either way; Tudor first then to Rolex or Rolex first then to Tudor. The brands are uniquely similar and dissimilar at the same time.

Opposite. Rolex was my gateway to a bit for fun / interesting option, which is Tudor.

I'm sorry you got so upset. I hope you recover quickly and will be ok.

However, my opinion remains the same: Tudor is a poor man's Rolex. If you don't like that opinion then we just have to agree to disagree.

And he is merely seeing the other side of the coin, which is that there are also a large number of people who are purchasers of Tudor because they cannot afford a Rolex of their choice.

Tudor was a more affordable alternative to Rolex back in the day when a watch was more of a necessity. Rolex case and bracelet, ETA movement. Got the job done; maybe not quite as well but mostly as well. These days it seems Tudor is more of a style/lifestyle difference. Given that most people think spending a few thousand dollars on a mechanical watch is insane; especially when that watch is inferior in almost every way to digital watches that are available for thousands less. If you can afford a Tudor you can afford a Rolex. Tudor, as a brand, seems to have more room to experiment with design and that appeals to some people.

Before my first Tudor I already Owned 5 Rolex. Then I ventured into Tudor with GMT, added a few more Rolex then added a Pelagos Blue, added a few additional Rolex and last watch I purchased was a Pelagos LHD. I enjoy my Tudors as much as I enjoy my Rolex.This thread is going to prove you wrong many times over.

Tudor is best known for the Black Bay line. But isn't the BB also known as a vintage submariner homage? Except that people don't call it a homage because Tudor is a sister company.

Tudor has other watches that are more interesting. I honestly think the Pelagos is better than the BB. My favorite Tudor watch is the North Flag. And yet, the BB remains the most popular line. A line known to take heavy design cues from vintage Rolex models.

Tudor collectors may get upset, but the general watch public has spoken.

You are aware that Tudor had it's own submariner and that is what the BB line is inspired by...

Granted the Tudor Submariner was very similar to Rolex Submariner as they shared case, bezel, crown, bracelet, clasp. Where they were different was in Dial, hands and movement.

To the original post- Tudor was sort of a gateway.

More to the point that this thread has drifted to, after finally purchasing a Rolex, I am now looking back to adding more Tudors. I can afford Rolex, however the quality (excellent) to price (very reasonable) ratio of the Tudors, combined with the fact my watches will be worn used and abused, sends me back to Tudor.

I'm sure there are people out there who buy Tudor because they can't afford Rolex, but just as many or more who buy Tudor because Tudor, like so many other non-Rolex watch companies makes a great product!

To each his own! Wear the watch you like!

Tudor Double Date
Rolex OP39mm black dial
Tudor North Flag- my current favorite because it pops, is very comfortable on the wrist, and is easy to read.

Parent companies the same, RWC and Vendome .
That's all .

Its separate entities and should be seen as such .

Stating Tudor is a poor man’s Rolex is a poor, lazy opinion (to which we are entitled too) and does a massive injustice not only to the brand but the people who buy and enjoy their Tudor timepieces.

Someone hit the nail right on the head earlier in this thread, just because you buy an Audi and not a Lamborghini doesn’t mean you can't afford a Lamborghini. It just means the Audi fits their requirements better.

Believe it or not (hard for some of the ignorant high flyers on here) but there are people who would aspire to own a Tudor and this would be the peak of their watch collection. The same could be said for every brand, it doesn't mean someone had to settle for less.

Looking briefly through your posts it seems you only got your first Rolex (an old entry-level Datejust) about six months ago. Since then you have asked if it should be ticking, how to make the date change at midnight instead of midday, and how to change the strap. I imagine there are quite a number of Tudor fans among all the people who helped you out with these and other queries, so you might want to tone down the attitude a bit.
