Wow this is very interesting! Also , just because they filed a patent doesn't mean they will end up using it

Certainly interesting if Rolex goes this route, but I’m not a fan of the butterfly clasp

If you see this link I posted earlier, the patent was filed in 2020.

I mean, I like butterfly clasps, several of my watches have one. I think this would be good in something like a Datejust as long as they make some sort of microadjustment which most butterfly clasps don't have.

Cellini is dead - lots of strong rumours of a new dress chronograph. This butterfly clasp would work well with that. However, lots of Rolex patents never make it to production.

It might look good which to me I kind of don't think so, but I agree, double the moving parts seems counter productive. The hidden clasp design on DD is beautiful and serves it's purpose, would actually prefer DJs still used it. Butterfly clasp are also one step extra in difficulty to put on compared to a standard clasp. I'm not saying it's that difficult, but just see many youtube videos with people trying close a butterfly clasp, much more retakes than a standard clasp.

Complex solutions to simple problems historically fail.

Doesn’t seem to have any size adjustability on it, so similar to the oke in the president band in that respect

Thanks for that. Filed in mid 2020. We will see if anything comes of it and if so, when.
