The wide flat silver coloured hour marker surrounds are incredible on this watch, I think they in combination with all the other aspects of the dial/hands etc. etc. just make the SLA017 a watch in a class of its own in terms of eye-candy.

Just picked up a few "Uncleseiko" straps for my Prospex trio.

1203 checking in , I really wanted one of these when they were first announced back in 17 & just couldn't justify buying one at the time of release . But times change & I found new one at a AD at a very good discount , So since Saturday I am now a very proud owner ,& can say this watch is even better in the flesh .

I've had a varying watch collection over the last 35 years , but this one really ticks all the right boxes for me . The 017 is almost Chameleon in the way it transforms itself in certain lighting conditions & really hits my personal watch sweet spot for a Diver .

I guess its OK to jump on the bandwagon, its understandable for me as a true lover of this watch.

I wont ask about your "personal sweet spot" too much information there but this watch does rate off the charts on my personal satisfaction scale in any lighting conditions.

This watch is $4,000. And its +10 s/day out of the box. Seiko should be able to do better than that for $4,000. It should be COSC for that price. Just look at what Tudor does at that price point.

I agree! There's no doubt that the 8L35 is capable of that (my SBDX001 runs closer to +2~3s at half the price). Still, I wanted it for Seiko's excellent "re-creation" of the 62MAS first & foremost

My guess is that the movement, without manual adjustment for six positions, will deliver 10s or less in 3/5 units which Seiko accepts as within tolerances for this (and lesser) price points.

My two Tudors run closer to +2~3s but they are also not COSC certified iirc. Perhaps the movement is easier to set up? There is no 4K watch that is manually adjusted in six positions (COSC) now days - it's not cost-effective at this price-point.

I'm not embarresed... neither is Seiko. If price is your qualifier, get a 9f movement and be happy with 1 second a month for LESS THAN any cookie cutter tudor.
