I think Rolex is a great brand, but seeing the 1908 makes me think they should stick to their lane of sports watches with closed casebacks.
Not sure what you are looking for in a watch but to me everything has some reasonable limits. Even if what you are saying is true, which doesn't seem to be confirmed, I wouldn't pay $9000 more for some microspically small components to be casted in real gold.

What I am willing to pay more for is technological advance, better and more reliable time keeping and better water resistance (which will keep your investment safe:))
I also love the convenience of an automatic watch.

Anyway, everyone's choice, and I respect your opinion.

I love Rolex don’t get me wrong, but…
Gold painted chatons IS confirmed. Just look.

I am looking for authenticity in design. It is fine for a watch to have pressed jewels, most actually do it. However, to create the illusion of having a chaton, when you really don’t is a poser move. It’s like getting diamond hour markers made of glass, cheap.

Yes; would love to see a moon phase complication. Cellini had it; no reason 1908 can't also.

I think they hit a home run with this one, and it’s certainly up there with Patek dress watches.

And I think that dropping “Cellini” was a smart decision. To me it sounds more like an Italian pasta, then a high end luxury dress watch. That, of course, is just my American sensibility. Probably different for native French speakers and Europeans. I hope I didn’t offend anyone!

Congrats on the 1908!

Lots of dress watches, and even more opinions about how to evaluate them. Regardless of personal preference owning the one that “speaks” to you is always the right choice. Good job to OP!

I agree. The simplicity makes it look classy and timeless.
I wonder if future complications may negatively impact this.
