It def needs an overhaul service which Rolex will want to also replace the crown.

sounds like a winner to me.

That’s not true. It’s simply a bad trade. OP asked for opinions and that’s what he’s getting. The zenith Daytonas are over hyped IMO due to the internet. They’re not the next PND some would hope. I’d trade one watch (hulk) Plus cash if it were me but not both. That’s a recipe for regret down the road.

If I were really tired on the BLNR and LV and really found the Daytona I wanted, yes. Otherwise, not likely. Let me just say I'd never own either the BLNR or the LV so it's not a likely scenario.

Zenith Daytona's are over hyped? What about the Hulk and BLNR - not over hyped?

There is no next PMD. The Zenith Daytona has always been hyped and always traded at a premium. Why is now or the future going to be different?

FWIW I would trade the Hulk and cash too but that's because I hate the Hulk.

Personally, I’d do the trade. Especially given your current collection. It fits. And seems that you prefer the 5 digit references. Also the Zenith Daytona is definitely a collectible and full sets in amazing condition and just going up and will continue to $ wise.

I’ll be the voice of reason - there is NOTHING special about the LVc or BLNR - unless you “love” all of the hype. That’s it.

Just for debate’s sake since this is an interesting question from the OP:

Zenith Daytonas sat in ADs early in their introduction?
I believe at least the LVc is the first ever green dial SS Professional Rolex?
The BLNR is not just Rolex’s but the world’s first watch with a bi-color ceramic bezel.

The only reason Zenith Daytonas (stainless) sat at ADs is because the ADs ‘sat’ on them and wouldn’t sell them to just anyone. I remember it well.

True, however —My LVc sat in the case at my AD for over a year before I bought it.

True, the BLNR is the first big color ceramic bezel....so what? Both the LVc and the BLNR are still in production.

I think you downplay the importance of the BLNR and the LVc a bit imo. The original BLNR is not in production anymore, which is the version that includes the world’s first bi-color ceramic bezel application which iI like bc I am a fan of technical application and advancements in material science.. The LVc sat for years you are right and I still think they’re a little more trendy than anything. Heck even BLNRs were in normal displays in 2014 and 2015. But future historical significance I do think they both have just like the Zenith and 4130 Daytona. The Zenith only sat early in it’s life cycle after Black Monday then the allocation game. If production of the Zenith was greater I do think they would’ve sat on shelves probably longer than Subs and GMT Masters though.

Thanks for the opinions.

I ended up buying a 16520 (A-Serial, white dial, papers, box, etc...) and sold the GMT 116710 BLNR to a friend. No need to have so many GMT models (16713 RB and 16710).

Also decided to keep the Sub LVC and will sell another watch like the black 16610 since the 16610v is in my collection.

My collection is now pretty much set in stone.

Not in a million years would I do that trade. You will definitely regret it.

Edit: Looks like you already made your decision. Enjoy the Daytona!

Took some quick pics earlier today. Never polished. It has one of those clear vinyl stickers over the case back hologram. A couple unused clear stickers were also included.

I personally would not do that trade. I used to have a 16528 and I really loved it. Until I tried on the 116528. The bracelet improvements made a bigger deal to me in daily wear. I switched that watch out for a 116508, primarily for a different dial.

You’ve got to get what you like, but I typically like the more current variants lately from Rolex.

Hmmm, not the best condition I have seen for a 16520.
Ultimately buy what you want. If it makes you happy, that’s the important.

yep. agreed through a lens. its never been polished and i took macro photos using an older iphone. even my 2018 Sub looks bad using a 10x loupe or macro photo.

from 12" , it looks great.

although time keeping has been perfect. i'm far more worried about the movement for this 20 year old watch. i'll have it serviced soon.

i also ended up keeping the Sub. so selling a GMT BLNR that was rarely worn in 2019 and paying some cash for a full set 16520 is good for me. i'm happy.

If it’s great condition no dents not heavily polished. I would go for it. But trade only one and add a little cash. Try to negotiate more

First thought: "Spock, are you out of your Vulcan mind!"

Assuming your research is solid on the value of the Daytona, it's pretty close to a fair trade financially going one way. If you decided to reverse the decision later, all things being equal, it would likely cost you a few grand out of pocket. Aside from all that, if you really love the watch and the other two not so much, then do it.

Just saw that you took the plunge, and it sounds like you got a deal that you were happy with. Congrats!

It's funny how many TRFers are shocked to see what a worn Rolex looks like. A rare bird indeed.

I took a flash pic of a PM fluted bezel once. Ouch!

Actually, the math was done and far closer than many think especially after considering fees.

Did you read the 2 posts where I mentioned both watches weren’t traded away? Sold the GMT do a friend.

Yep. Appears many recently purchased SS Daytona, Sub LV, and GMTs must be wrapped in bubble tape and then stored in boxes. There are some watches that don’t need to be polished while serviced. This is one of them to not risk it.
