That’s reality, so the good 16520 doubled in nearly 3 years. And growing...

Try that. Or go to bobs rolex and look through his Daytona’s if the link fails.

My God. That's a really dramatic increase in such a short period of time. Reminds me of what happened to the Testarossa market just a few years ago. They could be had for $60k in great condition. That's finished. It's really one of the most beautiful Ferraris made though.

Call me crazy but I think the 16520 special in white are the new 6263/6265!
Wait after the Phillips auctions in May, prices will jump again...

Not even close...Sorry. The prices are climbing because collectors are moving down to 5 digits as 4 digits prices have skyrocketed so high. But make no mistake about the 4 digits are always going to be in a totally different league as there simply are so few in worthy condition versus the 16520.

It’s no surprise that the 16520 is heading north. What’s not to love about it and being discontinued for a while now. I think it will keep going up.

In the UK and Europe, there was a step change in the price of 116520's a little while after the Ceramic daytona was realised, this happened much slower in the USA, the same thing happened when the 116520 superseded the 16520, so history was repeating itself, and I kicked myself for not realising sooner.

Dont forget, the first versions of the 16520 are 30 years old now, a lot of time. Could we call them vintage? not really, or?

one of my biggest regrets is not buying one of these for <$10k in early 2016. it is insane how much they have risen since then.

I could see the 16710 eventually outpacing a 4 digit, and a zenith eventually out pacing some of the non-PN daytonas. Because they are more wearable with crystal, they are likely more water proof. The daytonas are bigger, I don't think they made a ton of zenith movements, and I believe there are more differences in the zenith-rolex movements vs the earlier daytona movements.

In general for like an explorer, I think you are correct, but I'm not sure about a universal statement across the board although it is true at this point.

I think the 16520 and 16518 16519 etc, could definitely jump even more.

they made tons of Zenith Daytonas, especially when compared to the number of plastic Daytonas were made. zenith daytonas marked the beginning of the daytona craze and rolex sold tons of them versus plastic daytonas which they could barely give away. Neither are rare by any means. but a good is worth what someone will pay for it, and people are paying a lot more for zenith daytonas today than they were just a short time ago.

Has anyone else noticed this trend? I'm guessing this is a direct result of the discontinuation of 116520.
Have you seen the photos on IG of what prices people are seeing overseas for the Daytonas? It trickles down and forecasts the prices in the US at least 6 months later.

everything I've read is that the zenith daytona movements were quite limited in production. Yes more popular but also limited to something like what two or three rolex techs could modify at the zenith factory.

I am specifically referring to Daytona’s and I think that’s a safe bet. 4 digit Daytona's will always be worth more than any 5 digit one. Only so many 4 digit ones floating around anymore let alone mint with full lime, papers, etc. That’s my opinion though and probably a safe one.
