Just three years ago you used to be able to get a Steel QP RO for less than half the MSRP they have listed.

I don't recall what it was last week before they took all the prices down, but it might have been $107,500.

Don’t think it was ever below $30k. It was released at $44k. 15305st was around $30k.

Thank god I was able to mine at $51k even thought that was a ton at the time

Correct. I don't recall the Steel QP RO ever being $30k.

It was, indeed, released at $44k, then made its way up to $51.5k in 2020. And now it's above $100k.

Congrats! Are they shipping it to you? If so, they always need to ship out by Thursday as they ship overnight and they don’t want the watch to be sitting at UPS over the weekend (they don’t do weekend deliveries). If they’re not shipping to you, disregard above lol

Yes they are shipping it to me. Paying online was very easy. Can’t wait to have it to come to my doorstep on Friday. Needs adult signature lol.

From one perspective it would be crazy to raise prices in this declining watch market and economy. But from the other hand, we are still not able to buy an RO on a walk-in, so demand must be still higher then production. They are a luxury brand after all.

But its crazy how much they raised their prices the last years.

I just think it’s short sighted because the calculus on the losses you need to take on other pieces from them to buy a RO retail has already changed substantially. So if they further decrease the delta between retail and open market to take advantage of that spread on the RO further it will only hinder their demand on everything else that much more but let’s see.

I could also see them shocking the world and doing price drops. They released these newer offshores at a slightly lower price point than before. What if they were applying that to everything?

That would make the above go in reverse and potentially restore some hype to the brand. Albeit cutting prices prob highly unlikely, more tin foil hat.

No 2nd one. Purchased A 15720ST back in September.
Hopefully next one will be a 26238OR. That’s my grail piece

If AP wants to top Patek they will probably have to continue to raise prices. Keep updating and upgrading their Boutique experience. Which I think is really great imo already.

What do you mean to top them? If in terms of revenue, they already surpassed Patek last year. Based on Morgan Stanley report, AP revenue was 2bn CHF, while Patek - 1.8bn, with AP making significantly less pieces.
This year they will most likely stay ahead as well.

In general on the topic of price increase and original topic:

FHB has been quoted saying he expects 2.3bn CHF in 2023, if true this will be 15% increase which cannot be due to price only, there is volume component as well.

I can dig in an interview with him (I think from 2022) where he says that they can sell 80,000 pieces. Even if the market cools off by 25% since then, which in fact it isn't, it will be still above the production capacity.

The reality is that the brand is so strong and well perceived that they can keep on increasing prices and hold momentum especially with the 150th anniversary in 2025.
I think they won't be another increase this year, since in Europe we already had the 2nd one in October.

Plus I’d been trying to add a new watch to the AP concierge register and it’s not been possible due to site maintenance for the last week or so.

As an aside, I just don’t understand the comments about the grey/2nd hand market prices bearing any relation to how AP choose to price their new watches….especially as the CPO initiative has still yet to happen.

Yeah, the craziness of the last few years has really turned things on their head. AP is in the business of selling watches, not propping up people's ill-conceived alternative asset portfolios.

The unfortunate part is that AP has been keying off secondary market / ill-conceived alternative asset portfolios propped valuations to determine their MSRP price increases.

That's why one year had 3 increases in the US market.

Was at AP House Hong Kong yesterday, no imminent price increases.

Got to try this on. Very cool.
