Just like they did back in the 60s/70s with the 4 digit at 39mm when in reality it was also less.

With Rolex, if you want 40 then their 41 will be a close as you can get. Likewise, their 42/43 are more real-world 41/42’ish.
I disagree with your take. I think if you were accurate about the real numbers at the start, explaining the true size in the original post you'd get more accurate answers.

There are many people who voted who never handled a Daytona, and don't know how small it wears. But because you framed it as a 40mm, people are opting to vote to leave it that way, when if educated they'd possibly change your answer. This fundamental issue makes the answers you have gotten in this poll wildly inaccurate, in my opinion.

Voted perfect as is. Also just for the record Modernist is basically a Zenith Chronomaster Sport.

There is a guy on here who has his black dial 116500 ln fully brushed, and it looks amazing.

That said, no way I’d have the balls to modify one like that, but would love to see it come from factory like that.

It would be interesting to get TRF member views as to what the perfect Daytona could be. I understand that there’s 100s of tweaks that could be done, and some may have desires I’ve overlooked (please include these in your message - Mix Nirvana). For some the Daytona hasn’t ever appealed, but I’d be interested to know from you what would change your mind if Rolex offered you with a clean canvas and promised to put your creation into production. The watch could be an anniversary piece, 1 year only heritage version or a modern permanent production piece. You decide.

*To simplify - This whole pole focuses solely upon the SS Daytona, non oysterflex.

IMO, any of the 42mm options ! Due to the size, it is not legible nor wearable for a wrist size over 6.75” or 170mm. As with many Rolex, total perfection would be 36-37mm and 41-42mm size options.

The fact that it perfectly wears on that woman's wrist is why a more masculine option 2-3mm bigger would be better for a lot of men.

Ummmmmm, it’s half way down her arm. My wrist size is 7.25” / 18.4cm and it wears perfectly.

What size is your wrist?

Solid subdials are a must. I don't understand the current bullet hole subdials.

That's why I love the 116519ln.
