Agreed.

I'm not sure if the world is becoming "less normal", or if I'm becoming less tolerant of nonsense....

This is a farcical thread but I did have an experience kind of like this. When I went to get a watch I was excited and saw another guy waiting to pick stuff up too. Younger guy and looked totally bored to be there. I said hi and told him what I was picking up and asked what he was getting. He unenthusiastically said he was getting a couple things including a full gold GMT I believe. He had no interest in talking watches. He got the bag from the store and left without even opening the boxes. While I was super excited to look at my new watch and try it on and talk watches before leaving. My purchase was like $6000 and his was over $60000.

He may just not care or something or was a mopey private guy with more watches than he knows what to do with.

My first impression was he was picking up stock for a Grey though if I’m honest.

Hilarious story. What in the world would make you think he was a "pick up guy" for a grey dealer except pure fantasy based on the little knowledge you actually have about this.

Good to know where you stand for future posts though. Grain of salt and all.

That'll ruin the bezel.

Like I said, he could just be a mopey private guy that buys multiple expensive watches at a time and doesn’t open the box to see the new luxury goods he purchased. It just stood out to me as really bizarre behavior but I was also focused on my own pickup and shrugged it off.

I was just super excited to pick up my watch and look at it and try it on and talk watched with the AD and any enthusiasts around. He just wanted to get the bag and get out and didn’t seem to have any interest in the watches he purchased. Like they didn’t really belong to him and he was a runner.

We’ll never know. It was just an interesting experience.

As an aside I went to the bmw store to check things out and saw a group of teens jumping in an m4 GTS in the show room and being rowdy. I was surprised the sales people were letting them be so rough with the car. In my small city we don’t get things like this often so it was pretty special for me to see. Turns out the kid was 16 and it was his first car and he special ordered it and was picking it up.

These are probably just experiences that are odd to be because I’m not rich and don’t see rich folk often. I can’t imagine buying 2 luxury watches and not being the least bit interested when I go to pick them up and cannot be bothered to look at them when I get them. But I’m sure that’s how some folks are. It’s just like getting some fast food takeout. Another day another rose gold GMT and Airking for the pile in the closet.

The idea that ADs are selling to grey market dealers en masse is so pervasive here that it’s just accepted as fact, even though I’ve never seen anyone offer any real evidence that it happens more often than occasionally. That being said if a they were selling to these guys, I doubt it would be in front of store and packaged up in a green bag.

My theory is ADs often don’t know they’re supplying Greys. They’re just selling to normal people who happen to be runners. They get on lists and buy things like everyone else. They just happen to purchase with a company card and deliver stock to the store for resale. I don’t think it’s a nefarious plot to keep watches out of the hands of the general public. It’s not really the ADs responsibility to vet customers. I don’t really care if they sell to flippers or Greys. Free market. Ultimately the only people to blame in all of this is people who purchase 2nd hand watches. Even then it’s whatever. People can do whatever they want with their money. I don’t think any of it really matters. It just makes it more fun to get a new Rolex at retail without any spend history or gifts or VIP status etc etc like I did. :)

At first I wasn't sure but I keep seeing these types of people around the ADs. I am like 99.9999% sure these are flippers who approach people they see walking out with a new rolex and offer to buy it from them. Thoughts?

You are sooo wrong here....
We all know that all flippers use ROUND BAGS!

C'mon !!

What if it's the Omega ADs making trouble for the Rolex ADs with their square bags and shifty eyes?
