The question here is which watch is better for you? Given the fact the GMT will show you a second time zone based on a location of your choice. The Submariner will make possible to time some of your activities, like: running time, swimming time, diving underwater time, parking meter time. Now the question is to you - what useful functions do you prefer? Both watches are fully water resistance for swimming. The Sub can be used as a tool for professional divers. Both watches are beautiful. Price is similar.
Now it's up to you, and your activities. |

You can also use the bezel to time with the GMTII, just not as precise as the Sub. The GMTIIC is the best all around watch Rolex makes in my humble opinion.

Neither is better. Both are exceptional and are incredible watches. I love diving watches, yet the splash of color provided by the GMT is wonderful. It is great as the plane takes off to move the hour hand without stopping the second hand.
Myself, I'd go for an LV before either, and if not an LV then a GMT. I like the splash of color and the maxi dial. Interesting, how many people are discussing the GMT IIc when you didn't mention that as a choice.

is this really true, they are going to enlarge the submariners to 42mm in the future?

I had the gmt2-c and now have the sub-c for me hands down i like the sub better . Looks wise I like the all brushed band of the sub better. It seems sportier and more masculine imo. The polished center links of the gmt make it look dressier to me , I also prefer the bezel of the sub. The whole watch to me is just perfect. Its sporty yet elegant and has a very clean look... Also take into consideration the 2nd time feature of the gmt vs the depth and uni-directional bezel of the sub

GMTIIC has less clicks so timing using the bezel will be less precise than the GMTII or sub.

Your gonna buy both so get the 116610 LV then get a GMT TT that's the combo right there.

I work with GMT and having the time right there on your wrist is an added bonus. The Sub is my next purchase.

Currently in the same dilemma between the new sub c and the GMT II c. Currently, the GMT would be more useful but I have yet to try it on. Tried the sub and I liked the solid feel of it. Much better than the 16610 model IMHO. Hoping to try on a GMT before deciding. Both are quite hard to come by at the AD's in my area. They sell out too fast! (and also because they only get one of each per shipment).

GMT is dressier bc of the polished center link. Sub is clean, classic, yet durable. After I bought my Sub my tag aquaracer became my dress watch for winter bc of the bulky chrono and polished link

I asked this same question on a similar thread but didn't get any answers so far... Speaking of Ceramics, any thoughts on the blue (sub) vs. green (gmt) lume? Same intensity, duration, just different color?

Either 1 is a good choice. But for your first crown get the Sub then the GMTIIC

My first Rolex, a Submariner date (1680). My second Rolex 20 years later ....a two tone Submariner and 10 years later GMT TT ceramic. Well...I used to scuba dive recreationally but I really enjoy the understated classic lines of the Sub. Eventually you could have both...it took "TIME" for me.:-)

My choice will be a GMT II non-ceramic. But before I can find one in pristine condition, I got a Sub-c.
Now, keep hunting.. |
