The ceramic bezel has to match the sub dials for me to be interested. I tried on a OF model this weekend. It was good look.

I completely respect the Daytona for what it is, and I'd like to own one myself IF it was slightly larger and lost the asymmetric lugs. However, it's just a little too small for my liking, and I just can't unsee the lugs.

Aside from those personal aesthetic considerations, I think it's a great watch at retail. At 3x RRP.... not remotely.... unless the hype is the "be all and end all" for you. No matter what anyone says, and no matter how great the movement is (which it is), it IS the most hyped watch in history.

Well, it does wear small. Mine is in the safe. but my RG Daytona I love and wear often.

I think people like that it’s kind of Paul Newman, and then it’s hard to get , therefore it just be perfect….

I wouldn’t pay more than MRSP. Never hav toe for any watch but certainly not the SS.

take away the obvious increase in 'profit' from buying from an AD and I would never look twice at this Rolex, not my cup of tea...

I’ve always thought it’s overrated. I really liked the WG with Arabic numerals except the lack of wrist presence always had me take a pass on any variant.

Spot on but I’ll take it one step further. I know a lot of people that are gun collectors. Not a gun guy but I’ve seen some gun collections and I can really appreciate the craftsmanship and the metal work the woodwork etc. Same with a Daytona. I can see it on the table and appreciate the beauty of it. However I wouldn’t wear it. But I’ve seen some people though where and it looks spectacular on them. Just not a watch for me

OK, end of lesson.
No “lesson” necessary. I’m fully aware of it’s history. I’m also still correct in the fact that the secondary market price of almost all Rolex (especially Daytonas) went totally bonkers after the sale of the Newman in 2017.

I think its a good looking watch. Too small for me though. Not likely to buy it for many reasons.

Pointless thread - rolex and daytona have been almost synonymous for years. Great looks, very well balanced on the wrist and tons of history behind it. I wouldn't be surprised if they are all 100K watches in a few years. I am considering picking up another (a black face ceramic at grey prices). Will seem cheap in a few years. Love mine.

I have two complaints about the Daytona:

1. It comes in too many variations, some of which look a bit tacky to me

2. The name "Daytona" is a bit underwhelming. To me, the OG sophisticated swiss luxury racing watch should be named after a more sophisticated race venue than Daytona. They might as well call it the Rolex "Talladega Nights". I think Tag Heuer did a better job with the naming of their racing watches

Compared to? The Heuer calibre 11? Or maybe the Zenith El Primero? From the maker who supplied the movement Rolex used to put in the Daytona. How about the Omega Speedmaster? What history has the Daytona got compared to any of these movements and models?

Serious question. What am I missing?

Had two. Now sold. Silly screw in pushers, no date, impossible to use subdials.

I don’t like it. My AD knows that I have no interest. It’s a very nice watch, but I don’t care for chronographs.

Submariner to me is classic Rolex. But… I’d love a GMT. Here’s to hoping someday.

I owned the black ceramic daytona. I couldn't even tell the time. It seems like I was so excited to buy the watch because of the hype. After owning, I realized that this watch was not for me and I absolutely no use for a chronograph. I like the BLRO much better that I own.

I fell for the hype to, luckily I bought it at retail

Rolex originally went that route calling it the “Le Mans”.
