I can't believe I've done this, but after years of disliking the SS Daytona, I've just gone and registered my interested for the black dial version with my AD!

I'm not holding out a lot of hope for a swift pick-up as while I've had a good relationship with my AD for the last 25-30 years or so, I've not bought anything for the last couple of years, so my current spend profile with them won't be great. I guess this'll be the test of "long term relationship" vs "regular cold hard cash"! (Pretty sure I know the answer to that one, but we'll see!)

The outer metal on the bezel will be a scratch magnet. I do think the dial is more elegant now though. I better message my SA

Although the design cues are from the Zenith, it looks more modern. I like the new look, but the beefier crown guards and new case design (even with symmetrical lugs like white gold version) make my 116500 already feel more ‘vintage’, which I love.

I‘ll gladly keep what I have vs new one.

This new case is like no other. It's sharp edged and not rounded off on the sides from previous PM cases. Very excited to see one in flesh even if it is a exhibition model. A big change like this does make the outgoing model special indeed.

New one looks a little nicer for sure but they really needed to bump up the size a little.

Black dial is the real winner here.

Does having a scratch prone polished metal ring on what was formerly scratch proof glass bother anyone?

Thinner sub dial rings and thinner hour markers frees up some space for sure.

I agree - it does look more flat sided and sharp edged than the outgoing larger PM case style, but the overall lug design and case proportions are very similar.

Be interesting to see the real watches rather than the renders on the website.

The picture of the older Daytona isn't the best quality but.

The sub dials, slightly thinner black rings.
The indices/indexes of the new model are longer and sharper.
The new model has a metal ring around the outside of the ceramic bezel (big fail)
The lugs are evened out (hard to see but the old model had slightly thinner lugs on the crown size vs the non crown)

Thank you!

If the older had a better quality pic it will look much nicer in comparison with new. Agree the metal ring is big fail, Also indices too sharp, but that I have to see in the flesh to decide.

Doesn’t bother me in the slightest. It’s no more scratch prone than the case itself, or the metal part of a Sub, or GMT bezel. And I prefer the look, so it’s a non-issue for me.

I’m very curious for the size. Based on some of the pictures and videos online I think the size has increased and might be a true 40mm now.

More I look at the two, it looks as if the old may have more presence on the wrist. This is because of the all black ceramic bezel. The dial clutter on the old vs the new is going to be definitely a preference. I like the new but the old is just as special.

Thanks much better. Maybe a side by side would be better for comparison too.

New Rolex daytona panda 126500LN vs 116500LN

Yes. The steel now has a similar lug shape as my 116509. You can see the turned down feet on the lugs now.

It must not be identical though as the first SEL doesn't protrude over the lug (as much).

I think the metal ring around the bezel is a miss. On my speedmaster that metal ring gets dinged and look pretty bad.

Probably better that that the ceramic bezel chipped and need to change
