In this marked I bring something everytime. Got a new AD last year and he has gotten me a BLNR, 2 x Daytona G/S and a D-Blue in a month. Gav him a bottle of a 400 usd wine the first time, when he got me the BLNR, and he happens to be a former sommelier (how lucky was that haha) but seriously they gave you free money now, I think it is okay to be a little extra.

I have purchased three Rolex at retail and never gifted my AD because of it. Hell, I never even had a glass champagne with any of my purchases, so why should I get them anything lol. Their gift is the profit they make off of you

Sure, why not! The wife collects wine, so i use her collection to hand out my thank you gifts. What’s a $200 bottle of wine to say thank you for saving thousands from the grey market. Plus, i know he likes wine and we are friendly.

Does it help me get a Daytona, probably not. But there are hundreds of others they could have called. A small thank you, even a hand written note, is a nice thing to do. Is it necessary? Not at all, but it makes them feel good and probably brightens their day/week. What’s the harm.

This is what I ended up doing the first time I got a watch from my AD. I got many after from that AD. I don’t know if it was because of that, but I like to write hand written notes to show appreciation when I feel it is deserved regardless of the reason.

I’d write a nice thank you note before giving someone a starbucks gift card. I’d give them a gift, but I’d try to make it something personal. Do you know what their hobbies or interests are? Something related to their interests shows that you are paying attention.

No, the salesperson is selling you a $12,000 watch for $12,000.

If the want to sell $12,000 watches for $30,000, they can go work for a grey dealer.

My vote is to give a small gift to the salesperson if it's actually a gift to show your appreciation. If it's done with an ulterior motive (i.e., maybe this will give me a leg up in getting the next hot watch), it's not much of a gift at all.

That's all I suggested. Gratitude, not enticement.

Try telling the $45k Daytona set that it's a $15k watch.

My point is that when many get their calls they are avoiding the added cost of a grey market price if they simply can't do without. Personally I have never been on a list for anything except membership in the local gun club.

in any other times, you are correct. i would be scratching my head as well. however, times are different and establishing relationship and rapport with these sales reps are imperative. i'd like to think of it as a service that these sales rep provides. when receiving proper service (offered a watch that is on your wish list), it should be okay to present something nice for their efforts. it's like tipping at a restaurant; if you get good service, you would properly reward the server. the OP is not talking about leaving a 15% tip here. i'd imagine a small gift card with a personal note delivered discreetly will be greatly appreciated on the receiving end.
