Rolex / Cartier 2 out of 4; HELP! Tough Tough Tough

If it were me, I'd keep the Cartier and Explorer. Explorer my favorite Rolex, and that Cartier is one of the slickest they make.

First one I'd sell is GMT because a) it'll fetch highest premium over MSRP and b) it's my least favorite of the four.

Are you in a position to sell that one, see how much you net, and then decide if/when to sell another? If so, I'd double down on my recommendations, since you'll get the most for it.

Also, just to throw this out there. Why even keep 2? Esp if finances are playing a role in your decision, why not just be a one watch guy for a bit? A BLNR or Sub would be easy as an only watch for most people. Heck you could just order a jubilee and just have "two" watches with the BLNR.

Two would make a good combination for my case here—something to change once in a while.

There seems to be mixed messaging. My AD said they can order a jubilee for my oyster BLNR as recently as last month, but some here have reported AD said no. So may want to ask your AD

I didn't ask the price. If you search here I think you will find what ADs have quoted others. I want to say it's around $2k but I could be wrong.

I would keep the Explorer and the Cartier. Since maybe those are the two least expensive, you can add one more? Omega or something.

Omega? Any suggestion? I had one-Seamaster in the white dial. The bracelet is... I wouldn't say bad... but not good?

I'd drop the Explorer and the GMT.

The explorer would be easy to source again in the future. The GMT will probably be the easiest to sell and provide the biggest profit.

It leaves you a traditional sub and a dress watch (the Cartier will never bring a good resale profit anyway)

You may be right. If I sell my Explorer, I will go for vintage.

I'm not a fan of the modern Rolex movement. I mean, the movement is absolutely great! However, it makes the case back-humped. I love the vintage flat case back, and it defiantly wears better.

Problem is that the Explorer is the only one of the three Rolexes that he’s likely to take a loss on, though Sub may be same. In fact, that plus the Sub wouldn’t fetch much more than the GMT alone. That’s why I’d suggested starting by just selling the GMT and seeing if that’s sufficient.

They all are. But still highest relative secondary market pricing of the four. Only Pepsi and Daytona are really maintaining anything remotely close to previous values.

keep the Explorer and GMT.

Poll results look pretty reliable... lose the Cartier and the 35 mm explorer.

Later on, if you are still wanting an Explorer, then add the 40 mm Explorer when you are in a better position.

I voted to keep your sub date and BLNR but..

If you’re worried about visual overlap, I’d suggest keeping your BLNR and Explorer and you’d realize the benefit of recovering more funds that way too (I assume by family reasons you’re looking to raise cash). The Explorer 36 can also fit the role of dressier watch better than a sub..

I thought so. However, the modern Rolex makes the case bumped too much. Even the look of explorer fits the role of dress watch. The bump makes it feel sporty very much so.

Aesthetically though, I’d keep the Sub and the Explorer.

Well, that's new. Most people would suggest those two to go.

The Cartier and the Explorer would exit. I would buy a Jubilee bracelet for the Batman to change it up a bit and have a great two watch collection.
