YES - I think an Explorer would be appropriate.

I'd say a Gshock because they have all sorts of gizmos on them which could be useful like temperature, GPS, altimiter, tea and coffe making facilities, personal butler etc.

I guess he can wear a Breitling Emergency... but with all the calls for help he makes it is going to be an expensive use of the watch..

I wasn't familiar with his credentials and pedigree, but I saw Bear Grylls drink the water out of an elephant's For that alone, he can wear any Rolex he wants.

Maybe a brown dial rootbeer to remind him of his effort.

Yup. Bremont baby!

Rolex has nothing that can touch the toughness or shock resistance of the Bremont MB1/MBII.

It has been tested to withstand the ejection forces from exiting a jet aircraft.

1. Catapult phase 12 - 15G
2. Rocket motor 12 - 15G
3. Drogue Stability 30G (600kt sled test)
4. Parachute deployment 15G

Take a gander at the suspension for the movement.

Exp II is the obvious choice for people in the mountains, though GMT / Sub / SD all have valid reasons to be worn by outdoors types too.

I have noticed Ray Mears (A fat Bear Grylls) is wearing a Sub ND in his latest show on BBC2.

I started to say something about his fake shows - but-This guy IMO really gets a bum rap, he has openly said that the shows are sometimes staged at times for the purpose of entertainment and teaching info. While I do not really care for some of the things he's done on the show, his credentials of what he has actually done in real life, really do command respect.

The Bremont serves its purpose for a guy like Bear.

Maybe on second thought, it is best to keep the TV off...

Even with a Rollie, or any other piece on his arm, I can live without the mental picture of a "rancid fecal water enema"...

Thanks for the warning.

Good one!

Ok, to get farther off topic...

In one episode, I saw him slice open the belly of a dead camel. He removed the partially digested grass, held it over his mouth and squeezed the liquid out of it to drink.

I'd rather die....

Bear Grylls only wears Bremont watches. He owns a Bremont MB and a Classic Range. Nice British watches but never quite as handsome as an Explorer II white dial.

Not to stir any stagnant water but, I don't see any of you Bear smashers out there ripping the spines out of a live salmon with your teeth or drinking your own urine. I believe Bear to be a stand up guy and a true gentleman. Whether or not some of the stunts he performs are less than questionable has no bearing on what the show is trying to convey. It is a show about survival. Quite a few of the things that are presented on the show may help someone in a lousy situation some day. There, that's MHO.

Nicely said! I do have to admit that I am one of Bear's greatest fans.

Ray Mears is far more the real deal. He is to Grylls what a rolex is to a "high quality replica".

But with respect to both of them, neither approach the legendary status of Les Hiddins.
