big NO! I really do not like the look of the new maxi cases, the lugs look way out of proportion to the bracelet, but i would never do a drastic physical mod like this. It is...irreversible....

Anything that is modified will have a limited market for a resale.
A limited market generally means one thing...... lower demand and lower price. But if you like it and if you think it's done well enough and you are not worried about resale values... then no problem...... I personally wouldn't touch it .......... You just have to look at what something as minor as a change of hands (even if done by Rolex) on a vintage watch at a service does to the value, never mind carving up the case....... |

Personally I think it vastly improves the look of the watch. Obviously it seriously compromises the resale value, so I hope the owner is planning to keep this one for life.

The Watch Is Genuine....
Quote:
Trust me, the watch is genuine. The owner is a personal friend of mine and I can vouch it's authenticity. And the shaved lugs are proportional in width size as careful measurements were done to achieve this "nip and tuck" procedure. Cheers! |

The wide lugs were a sticking point for me when deciding whether or not to get the sub c. I prefer the look of the older narrower lugs, but wanted to buy new from an AD, so ultimately did purchase the sub c. I've grown accustomed to the wide lugs, sometimes even thinking I now like them better this way. Then I see a picture of a 16610 and wonder if my sub c would indeed look better with narrow lugs. I even partially cover the lugs them with my fingers to see what it might look like! Despite that, I would never actually go to such steps as the GMT IIc owner in the original post.
I suppose all that matters is that the person who modified it likes it and doesn't regret it. At least it lets the rest of us see what the GMT IIc looks like with narrow lugs without having to imagine it by covering their lugs with their fingers!! |

Not for me but to each his own. He paid for it, so he's entitled to do what he wants with it.

I prefer the whole ceramic package including the maxicase but my old 'M' Pepsi with just a triplock and a new clasp would do me just fine.

I cannot afford to spend so much money on a watch that I would want to change so much to go to such extremes for so little difference - if that makes sense....

I like it.
Not to offend you mate but you're wrong, I personally know the owner of the watch as well and he would never even think about buying a fake Rolex, heck the guy owns a few ALS and has been collecting Rolex for decades. In the end, to each his own.

Hello folks, i am the guy who owns the watch, allow me to copy you on my original post on the subject, maybe it will help explain some of your questions as to why I decided to do it. Also I want to address some of the other comments here. i am not here to convince or judge you guys for your comments but would like to share my views on the subject. Hope not to bore you guys but here goes:
-resale value is not a concern to me cause I dont really flip watches my collection parameters have evolved to a point that I pretty much know what I like and almost all my purchases are already keepers in my mind when I decide to buy them. I dont have a lambo or anything like that but the cars that I do have I have no problems de badging or modifying as I see fit after all its my car and my money so I kinda feel I can do what I want with them. I did the same mod to a SubC and am also very happy with it. oh ya, the watch and all my watches are authentic watches I may be crazy in others minds for modifying my watches to suit my own personal taste but dont patronize fake watches (no offense to those here that do) I hope the post will clarify some questions you guys may have. for those who liked what I did thanks very much for the comments I to am very happy with my mod and would recomend it to anyone interested. please pm me if you want some info on how it was done. for those who didnt like the mod Im sorry if it offends you but then again atleast I must have revalidated your oppinion on hoe prefect your watch is for you as is. I guess its a win win for all Cheers jafores my original post on a different forum I have had this project in the works for quite a while, and 2 weeks ago I finally pulled it off. I have been harping about the GMT2cs maxicase ever since I saw it, although I really liked the enhancements of the IIc like the green hand, ceramic bezel and the enhanced bracelet and clasp. my one major nitpick was the lug width here is a picture..... So off it went to ............ for a nip and tuck, and after a little elbow grease and a whole lot of nerve, this is what happened Here is a pic next to a older GMTII for reference. The 116710LN-78200 demaxicased .... perfect..... |
