Please just make less of those ugly low-end DS datejusts and free up capacity to increase production of references that are in demand.

Rolex pours all this money into a Wimbledon campaign, then AD’s turn away unsuspecting consumers who just want Federer’s watch. So much for “Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday.”

Yes, 5% of which line? Professionals would be nice but not holding my breath

Perhaps the 5% reflects PM models. I think that is where Rolex wants to move its SS buyers into eventually. The idea that a 5% increase will be focused on the most "popular" SS models seems a bit farfetched, as availability just may make them less popular. Maybe a minimal increase in that area to meet some of the demand and waiting lists, and the bulk of an actual increase spent on other models Rolex wants to move or develop a greater market appetite for.

I call BS on this claim of 5%!
Rolex claim every watch takes a 12 month process to complete a watch. They have a limited work force & outsource nothing. Besides, a 5% hike in production would just about keep up with global population increase and emerging economies. |

My AD told me that the shortage is due to the high demand from Martians.

Rolex hasn't been producing 1M a year for a long time. So I'm afraid your AD is talking from where the sun don't shine.

This isn't the answer at all. Prices are actually going up just in a different way. Datejust 41s, 126660s, SD43, BLNR, Daytona C...in effect all new models cost more than their predecessor as Rolex slowly overhauls it's catalog. Those few extra hundred dollars which is what the increase is, has done nothing. Prices usually change when a model is redesigned like the price difference between 16610 and the 116610. For it to make a dent where people would lose interest, the price would have to go up by 20% or more. Perhaps these things are cheap to you or the average Patek buyer looking to spend some change, but if you look through the forum you will see many threads where people are saving, have saved or are working hard to afford a Rolex. Contrary to popular belief on this forum, paying $9k average for the popular professional models which is just "a watch" is quite a lot of money. Patek raised the price of the 5711 dramatically, demand went higher and grey prices went exponentially higher. |

Understood. I was being little sarcastic/cynical. I too hope Rolex would increase production instead of raising prices. Crazy times... |

Glad an increase is happening, but don’t think an increase of 5% will do anything. Economy is strong people want to buy the newest and greatest so even with an increase demand is still higher.
The only way would be to have a full jewelry case at the AD. Issue though it would then inflate supply to much and items would not move etc. |

5%is a drop in the ocean to be honest. At that rate it would take years to make a difference if at all. 20%, 30% maybe would start making a difference, but again it would take a couple of years at least.

Very smart on Rolex’ part, if the rumors are true. Shortening the wait time a little bit to keep the hopes up for those who are on the waitlist, but not making the watch too available to disrupt the price.
But I also agree the grey market is in part to blame for the global shortage. When the first Pepsi I see anywhere is on some grey market dealer’s website with an insane mark up, I know as a regular joe consumer I have the cards stacked against me even in the waiting game. |
