This really isn't a fair comparison given the material difference in price. We're talking about two completely different purchases here.

I agree with many here -- if budget concerns do not apply, go with the WG Sub. It's a beautiful watch and I would eagerly swap my BLNR for one if I could ignore the price difference.

Also, if you're really in the market for a WG watch but like the GMT complication, why not consider the WG GMT BLRO?

To the OP so different watches. If you can afford the Smurf you will not regret it, but the BLNR is nice as well. Maybe for the price of the Smurf you get the BLNR and something else?
Go BLNR and 116613LB. Amazing together. Sunburst is better than the dial of the 116619LB in my opinion

The smurf is a great watch but the BLNR appeals to me more

Smurf.

Put one on, you will not be disappointed. Pictures really don’t do justice to this piece.

WG for me. I have flipped all of my SS Rolexes and now have an all PM lineup except for TT Sub serti dial.

Wearing precious metal watch vs SS is a very very different feeling. Its luxurious, it feels like truly something special and honestly it just gives you a completely different feeling.

You will know when you wear one.

These two options are in different leagues. The WG LB is better in all aspects and I find it more appealing visually as well. Which feels like a better fit on the wrist for your lifestyle?

It depends on what other timepieces you own. I would pick the BLNR, however, I’m not a fan of white gold.

Apples vs oranges. 116619 is a Sub, while BLNR is a GMT. First is PM latter is SS. So what do you look for and how big is your budget? Why don’t you go for 116719 BLRO? Thus 619 and 719 would be at par.

Strange comparison.

If SS, then BLNR for sure. If PM, then WG BLRO or DD40.

Smurf 100%
I tried one on at a local AD and loved the weight and feel of the WG. I also tried on the PM GMT and preferred the feel of the Sub much more.

Try to get them to agree to a bundle of a smurf and a blnr. You'll like them both. Worst case you can easily trade the blnr in today's market.
The smurf is better, if money is not an object

I went through a similar thought process. Battle of the blues. BLNR won for me. More bang for the buck, and to me a more veratile watch. The blue of the Smurf is beautiful but all blue all the time is a bit limiting whereas the black of the BLNR ensures that watch can be more of a stylistic workhorse. I also like the GMT function more than the dive function.

A better comparison is a WG BLRO vs a WG Smurf.

As a first Rolex, stainless steel sports model makes more sense to me. If you can find BLNR at MSRP it is a no-brainer buy, especially compared to a gold model like the sub. I am partial to the GMT complication in general and I think it is the more versatile watch between the two options.

WG Sub is on my list (not top of it), and in fact my AD has it. It is a lot of coin at retail though. Gorgeous watch. If a little depreciation doesn't bother you and you can afford it, go for it.

Big difference between the two. WG has the warm and weight. Smurf wins.
